• Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

I have no children or partner and find life very tough wit no happiness and little enjoyment. Certainly not enough enjoyment to make the suffering worthwhile. But I see plenty of people who have families or activities that bring them joy so I voted no. It's a balance. If the difficulties of being alive outweigh the benefits then it's pointless. If the balance is positive outweighing the difficulties most of the time it's not pointless.
If you're talking generally I suppose it is pointless. We are only born so we can reproduce, repeat, repeat etc. we were taught that the definition of cancer is persistent pointless proliferation of cells. Which could be a description of the human race.

@alltoomuch2 said it very well.

Objectively life is pointless it was a coincidence on this planet. subjectively it depends on many individual factors how we experience our personal life and how we see it.

Not specially, maybe some people are kind of cursed and so their life seem pointless to them. I know that for a lot of People, life is going well and nothing terrible seems to happen to them, it's like if certain individual was predeterminated to suffer and others not. That's really what i observated, i knew people very unhappy or even tortured and their life didn't improve, for others it seem impossible that something really bad wich could make them become suicidal happen, as if they were protected by something. Very strange....

I don't think there is any objective meaning to life. People come up with subjective meaning all the time, but to me that is being delusional - it's kind of like buying a laptop and using it as a plate to eat from. I am a bit envious, though, of such people. It seems like it works for them and keeps them alive. Yet it makes me feel empty, I need both objective and subjective meaning I think.

I think the point is whatever we perceive the point to be, whatever we attach meaning to. I see life providing a kind of platform for us to decide if there is still anything worth living for given where we are at, what we've been through and the chances of making our point happen. In my dark days, I see no point or future possibilities, and in my less dark days, I'm trying to hold onto a belief for love to win in the end. It really depends how dark things get, but that doesn't mean that life has no point to others. Even though I'm really angry at life at the moment, I'm voting a no today. Of course, in the grand scheme of things, the routine of life, the importance of money and power, the sad state of humanity, and all suffering in the world, things have become pointless or meaningless.

Yes, life is pointless. There's no reason or need for life to exist. Just because some people enjoy living doesn't change the fact that life is still pointless in the first place. There's no need or value to any of this but the human brain is shockingly amazing at managing to convince people otherwise

Extreme Pain is much worse than people know

Life is pointless and meaningless

The only thing people and an ai I was debating can say is they enjoy some things,

But those enjoyable addictions are meaningless fleeting temporary while the extreme torture possible is much more intense and longer lasting. The worst torture and most unbearable pain makes everything else meaningless. There is pain so bad it makes everything else meaningless

So I'm enjoying meaningless addictions to fall into a trap of extreme torture

To me any enjoyable garbage are the worst things because these meaningless addictions are the things that keep me from working on getting my suicide ready to go and so keep me trapped to fall into a worse nightmare

I think you can tell which way I voted by my username.

I get that some people seem to have happy lives, but to me that isn't even worth it for those good moments when the chances are there for so much to go wrong, that could immediately change it. Who knows, maybe they'll even have the majority of their life be great and spend their last 10 years rotting away in misery. Is that worth it?

If we take into account that the ultimate purpose of life (in addition to the self-reproduction of the species) is the acquisition of experiences (good or bad), this should certainly mean that life has some meaning. Despite that, I answered no because it is still an extremely subjective matter for the individual and each of us however, he has his personal limits of patience and frustration tolerance threshold.

Most animals died by being eaten alive by other animals bacteria or parasites. I don't think they enjoyed that

I've personally always felt in such a way, I see existing as nothing more than pointless, unnecessary suffering all for the sake of it, existence just creates so much pain and problems there was never a need for at all and it's all just so terrible and torturous to me, I'd never wish to suffer in this existence, I could never see any point to being conscious burdened with this existence rather existence just feels like the most cruel, tragic mistake to me and it's something I wish was never imposed more than anything.

I wish I was never forced into this existence of pointless suffering especially as there were never any disadvantages to never suffering at all, to me existing truly is just waiting to die anyway where eventually all will be gone and forgotten about no matter what and I'd always prefer to not exist to save myself from suffering in this cruel, futile existence where there is no limit as to how much agony one can feel. The thought of suffering until old age is so horrific to me, I just want to cease existing instead where this pointless existence is finally no longer my concern, all that I see as ideal is being permanently unconscious incapable of suffering in any way.

Life isn't pointless. It's really what you make of it. You decide what it's important to you in life and go after it.

In the end, yes it's just pointless

but also the nice thing about it is you can create meaning.
But you have to be able to, that's the real problem

I meant that in general, they have to hunt, fight to survive and take care of their offspring and I doubt they wonder about the point of that or get existential seeing others become some predator's meal 😂

All life has meaning. I think it's pointless to think life is pointless. But that doesn't mean all life is worth living.

It's worse than pointless. If it were pointless, there would still be room for a point to be made. Life is asinine. There is a point, and it's fucking stupid.

This is a tough one.

I think there is a lot in life. There is love, friendships, experiences, feelings, etc.

But the way I view my life is. Everything has an end anyways. And everything is just struggling to survive until the end.

Love has an end at some point (whether that is break up or a partner dying). Friendships can end so quickly. Family/ blood means nothing sometimes.

And even if you had the perfect situation for all of these. It's nice for a while. But what is the point eventually? This is given that you don't believe in an afterlife (which I don't really). Why suffer through the horrible system we have, the pointless living. Nothing in the grand scheme.

That being said. My personal situation and my view on the after life have made me like this. But I know for a lot of people there will be more to life. Love and family and everything will be the point. It just is not for me unfortunately.

If life was a utopian Elysium, then there would definitely be a point. This disgusting reality? No way in hell there is a point.
