I would be happier I think. Going to college and getting a job is so unappealing to me. Why do we do it? Who said we had to? Society makes those things a necessity in order to obtain the basic necessities in life. And because everyone else in the world is doing it we follow. Those who don't are looked down on, it's all very weird to me.
Hmm, that's because you are an outsider. What you are looking at is a culture. Don't you think that mutilating your genitals or painfully elongating your neck are are also very weird practices? Yet, in certain tribes or cultures not wanting to partake in these procedures is what is seen as weird and undesirable.
But culture has a pragmatic, or biological foundation. In the case of college or work, what happens is that food, habitation, sanitation/health, decoration, clothing, entertainment, tools, all these are actually hard to obtain from the raw materials of the Earth, so to prevent each individual having to craft their own tools, weave their own clothes and treat their own ailments society has organized itself to have every single little necessity attended by someone, "a professional". It's expected from everyone that uses these services to be part of the communal struggle to exist comfortably as another professional.
From your shoes to the website we use to the person cleaning up the plaque in your teeth we as a society form a conglomerate of people helping each other survive and entertain ourselves. We even have people to clean other people that shit themselves, or people that sexually satisfy those than can't have sex normally. There are darker "helps" and "fixes" offered too.
It's all a grand enterprise of existential recursion where everyone is running towards life and trying to escape death by making copies of themselves. But to me is also all very strange. I am also an outsider. I would like to have an actual purpose outside of sustaining my life as long as possible and filling someone else with semen. I perceive that there is something else to life, but I can't find it.
Some argue that when civilization was very limited the activities we carried out to survive and reproduce were less onerous and there was more leisure. I am skeptical of that, I think the problem with life is life itself, but I can see what they mean.
