Discussion Do you look up on celebrities who killed themselves?

I often find myself reading about celebrities who killed themselves with a feeling of utterly respect for them. It doesn't necessarily have to be celebrities but at least theyare the ones you read about.

I try to find out the most possible information about the way they did it, the circumstances, etc.. It makes me sad but in the same way I have a lot of respect for their decision.

I do somtimes. There is a person called Caroline Flack who committed suicide in February. She's a person who's had it rough months before she died which was well publicised in the UK media.

it's just proof that money, fame, resources and support sometime are not enough. You can't buy health. I think of Robin Williams. Supporttive family, all the money in the world, much to live for, yet his health struggle was too much after awhile. I completely respect his decision. No one should have to suffer endlessly.

I do not necessarily mean it from the "fame" perspective. It is at least the most accessible resource, if you will. What I'm trying to say is, you rarely read about your next door neighbor how and why he committed suicide.

Yes I do. Honestly I think that if they could do it, then I could too. They could have afforded the best mental health care but they still ended their lives.

I’m jealous of celebrities who succeed. Actually, I’m jealous of all dead people because I want to join the club.

I have the same thoughts, I'm jealous they were able to complete the task and I am so confused as to how esp in the cases of Robin, Kate Spade, or any celebs who managed to CTB with simple tools on hand. It seems so easy for some other people, and I keep failing trying the same methods.

Only jealous of them for being at peace along with all that ctb. If I could speak to that 8 yr old me when I first thought of being dead I would make sure he did it so I didn't have the last 40 years of crap ruining any chance of life

Yes, I do. I’m particularly interested in the methods they used. Robin Williams is the celebrity that always comes to mind. The press really went into graphic detail about his suicide. He looked up methods on his iPad and then deleted the history. He tried cutting his wrist but couldn’t go through with it and opted for partial hanging. The thing which freaked me out about his suicide was how relatable it was. He could have been anyone of us experiencing setbacks and eventually succeeding in the end.

i’ve been reading a lot on kurt cobain because i’m a huge fan of his music. he was just so smart. his view on life is similar to mine and he had so many great quotes. sad he killed himself but i can see why because i’m about to go the same route. so i’ve been reading his suicide note and reading abt him and stuff.

I said this before somewhere in this site, but I was pretty deeply affected by Etika’s suicide. The thing is, he really was on a downward spiral in the weeks leading up to his death but some of his more toxic fans just ate it up and kept calling him a clown and spamming the clown emoji.

There was that one day when the police showed up at his apartment. Some idiot called them on him thinking he was a danger to himself. He reacted by locking himself in the room and being terrified enough to not want to let them in at all. He even broadcast this live on Instagram. People assumed he was just being crazy and not wanting help but he was also a black man in New York City who had just been reading a lot of articles about “swatting”, the practice of calling in fake swat team calls to people’s houses. People die from those and he was just defending himself and didn’t want to be one of them.

That was just one example of how poorly he was treated. His mental breakdowns were the subject of “Drama Alerts” by other youtubers which just made me sick. To think this all started because he kept getting copyright struck on YouTube and all he wanted to do was watch shows with his fans.

Even though I might be one of the few people to recognize that this was his choice and he had his right to it, I still miss him. As lame as 2020 was, there have still been at least a couple of things he would have been really excited about. For example, every Smash character that came out after his death: Byleth, Min Min, Steve, and Sephiroth were all characters he would have been so excited for and I really just want to know what he thinks of their inclusion...

A few years ago I read into Ian Curtis - the lead singer of Joy Division - and why he was no longer around. I found out that he had died by suicide - which I did not realise at first. It was a weird feeling to know that a person who I initially thought was alive had been deceased for decades. I was listening to the track "Dead Souls" at the time as well.

To answer the question: No I do not look up to celebrities because I dislike the idea of celebrity culture, and just fame and social status in general. This is not to say that I dislike famous people themselves though. In fact the discovery of Ian Curtis's suicide reinforced my own desire to die. Apparently one of the reasons he ended his own life was because, according to his wife, he did not wish to live past his early twenties. At the time I was in my early twenties myself and had been suicidal for some years, and for the same reason as Ian: I did not (and still do not) wish to grow old. This helped to spur on my own semi-attempt right before my 21st birthday.
