Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

I once read there was a website in my country that was used by many students as internet pillory. They are now illegal.

One could say one main function of social media is exactly that.

Isn't 4chan also used in such a way? I think there are such websites on the dark web but they are not known to a large group of people. The media probably censors to report about it. To prevent the Streisand effect.

The inherent problem with public shaming is... people want to shame other people but they do not want themselves to be shamed. You never deserve it nor do your friends or family... but of course anyone you don't like fully deserves it. Also, once shamed, it is hard to come back from it... even if the shaming was not earned. People start rumors and innuendo and the shaming happens, then it turns out the shamed person had never done anything wrong but was the victim of someone spreading false rumor? Too bad, the damage has already been done. You can't be un-shamed even if you never deserved the shaming in the first place. It's really easy to ruin someone, and damn near impossible to redeem them in the court of public opinion.

It's the emotional form of lynching... and that never goes well either.
