No. I only get bills in the mail. Why are you anxious about brown envelopes?

Yeah, because all my mail relates to missed bills/debt payments or else immigration hassling me for no legitimate reason. I live in a constant state of doubt and insecurity.

Hello Nofaith.

I am sorry to hear you are made so anxious by letters from the DWP. Just know you are not alone in that sentiment, there are many who feel that way throughout the UK. As far as I am concerned they are institutionalised cruelty long overdue a reckoning. I will refrain from ranting. I used to help a lot of people deal with the DWP. What I hate to see is how afraid and guilty they make people feel.

I don't know what your situation is, and I can't help you line by line with the forms, as I am just too fucked up these days. However what I can offer you, should you feel the shit is soon to be hitting the fan. Would be advice on where you can get access to various guides and other forms of assistance with anything you maybe finding difficult.

The other thing I want to say is they want you to be afraid, it is intentional of them. From the nasty wording of the letters, to the hostile tone they take on the phone or in person. It is all orchestrated to drive you away and deny you what is rightfully yours. Instead of being afraid you should try and get angry. Angry that an organisation that is meant to help people in your situation is instead causing you fear in the first place. Angry because you pay for the very existence of this organisation through your taxes and through your national insurance. Don't ever feel guilty for claiming what is actually yours in the first place! Maybe think about that when you see those letters. There is help out there and it all becomes less scary when you are made aware of what the DWP is not telling you. It becomes easier if you view it as game to win out of sheer spite, because you have a right to dignity and what is yours.

I wish you all the best.

My mail recipients are quite consistent (bank, some charities requesting donations, store catalogues that I don't know how to unsubscribe from), so I feel okay about that. Like others I now get most of my communications via email so the sender and topic are immediately there. There's no anxiety about opening blank envelopes

My mail is usually from lawyers and collection agencies, so as soon as I see it I'm already saying "go fuck yourself" and then I don't even bother opening it lol. If not lawyers then it's medical bills. Yeah, actually, basically all of my mail gets a "go fuck yourself" lol I don't really open any of it. It just gets tossed into a pile xD

Thank you.

I could start a whole thread on the DWP. Mostly their assessment process and the whole farce you have to go through only for them to say no. I've had my experience but there are so many out there, who have had it so much worse.

Personally, I don't, unless it is a important piece of mail, like whether I have been accepted or rejected to something.

My mail consists of letters from the hospital. "Hello Compo, you are hereby invited to <date> for some kind of test" type thing. Worst one I had was a rejection letter from the DNR thing because apparently, I'm immortal. I "lack the tendency to die", according to some asshole.
