I just read that Taylor Hawkins has died, age 50. When I read about these celebrity deaths, when they have 'died before their time', I find it relieving and soothing in a way. It makes CTB, and dying 'before my time', seem more OK. I don't know why exactly. I'm not glad he's dead, I don't think. It just seems to dispel this social myth that everyone needs to live till they're 85 to have 'lived a full life'. And these famous people are the most glorified people in the world, along with the space-exploring engineers. There is this idea that they have everything, the dream life, they 'made it' - and it's all gone in a flash - he is no more, and the world keeps turning. It makes dying seem like not such a big deal. And what's more, despite having 'everything', it seems he still felt the need to enhance his experience with drugs, if the current rumours are true! It could even be that I'm somewhat resentful, and I'm glad to see people who seemingly have 'everything' drop down dead! But I don't think it's that. I've always loved watching very old movies, 1940's style, then going to IMDB to see that all the actors in it are dead. I get a lot of comfort from seeing that these stars of the golden age of Hollywood are long gone, and the world is still turning, and it's all just not that big of a deal.

50 seems old to me. I hope to be gone way before I reach that age. I am envious of all people who die as they are free from their suffering and are at peace. I do think that when someone dies, it does make me think about how meaningless and temporary our lives really are. Eventually we will all die and our problems will die with us.

I never thought about it. Celebrity deaths don't affect me much. Some suicides like robin Williams made me kinda sad, although I wasn't a huge fan or anything but they are all humans and death doesn't care who you are, it will come and get you eventually.

Yes. There are a number of celebs I would like to see die,so as to make it more acceptable for me to ctb.
I.e.,the remaining Beatles.

I don't feel relief per se but I do get jealous of anyone dying whether young or old.

Yea if I knew I was going to live another 20+ years as an adult especially with being myself I'd rather and wish to die young.

Celebs not really no unless they're pedophiles or creeps like Michael Jackson

Politicians yes

Every day I savor in the fact that Donald Rumsfeld is dead. There is no magical life extension technology that can reverse time and revive his dead carcass. There is no suspending reality to give a longer and better life to this American war criminal as well as many others. No matter how much the sociopathic Silicon Valley and deep state types try to avoid it they will die. This brings me immense comfort

The two I'm looking forward to dying next are jiang xemin and Henry Kissinger.

Society places this emphasis on "quality" over "quantity" of life in a lot of ways. But when it comes down to it, life is judged in quantity. Nobody morns the person who lived to 95 but had an entirely miserable life as a "tragic death." But someone who dies at 40 and had an amazing wonderful life is mourned as a tragic loss.

Yeah. I feel you. Robin Williams' death made me sad because he made a lot of people happier with his talent. You can't replace something like that. Obviously no person is replaceable but people who can make others laugh is something really special.

Nice talk. Where is the evidence?
Evidence is linked in the post.

Michael Jackson is dead and he is never coming back.
And more importantly joe Jackson is dead as well - joe Jackson will be remembered forever as an abuser and a loser

I heard that whole thing was a smear campaign because he refused to sell the rights to the Beatles' catalogue.

Or , he was just a pedophile.
You can tell that just by watching his mannerisms. The guy was a talented creep but a creep nonetheless

Oh he was absolutely fucked up, theres no doubt about that. I just never personally caught him with a kid's genitals in his mouth or anything.

I'm not sure if it's relief exactly, but I think I understand how you mean. When I hear about someone famous dying or succeeding at CTB it helps to lend more realism to death for me.

Instead of this abstract idea of death that's always lingering in the back of my mind but being pushed to the side, it feels more tangible. It reminds me people are dying every day whether by choice or not.

seeing that these stars of the golden age of Hollywood are long gone, and the world is still turning, and it's all just not that big of a deal.

This right here—life on earth has been beginning and ending for billions of years now, so from that perspective CTB seems almost insignificant (despite seeming like such a monumental act from a personal perspective).

I think that's it, that it just makes my own death seem less significant, because you can see that death happens to everyone, and early deaths can and do happen to anyone, no matter who they are, which makes me feel relief.

It's quite ridiculous, someone has their dream career, never works a 9 till 5 in their life, does nothing but what they love to do, and then dies at 50, and it's a tragic shame - someone else works in a job they despise for 50 years, drinks to cope, only looks forward to going on holiday once a year to somewhere hot, and Xmas, has 2 failed marriages, and kids that can't stand him, but he lived till 94 so it was a 'good old age' and he lived a good long life!
