I'm just curious really. Do you battle away to succeed or find the answers yourself or, do you go for easier options?

I'll usually try initially to play a game on normal settings and, I'll try to work stuff out myself. After a few failed attempts though or, if I'm becoming frustrated, I'll look for easier options. Sometimes playing on an easier setting. I mostly like to relax with some challenge in a game. It becomes less enjoyable if I keep failing the same part!

Sandbox is usually too boring though. I'm often impressed by how games provide different levels of difficulty to suit the player. Some games though, I wish there was a 'totally incompetent' level to play at! I love the graphics of 'Cuphead' but, I'm so appallingly bad at it, I've gotten next to nowhere in the game.

The internet is also amazing for walk throughs. I'll use them now and again if I'm getting annoyed. Plus, I don't always like jump scares in games. I'd prefer to either know they're coming or, be able to avoid them.

I had so many unfinished games in my youth. No internet back then. Now I've heard there were phone lines you could call back then! That seems like such a funny job: 'Turn to your left at the castle to find the secret entrance. Pick up an extra life at the top of the ladder...'

How about you? Are you a purest that never cheats? Are you an incredible gamer that can battle through without losing a single life or, do you cheat like mad to get on to the next stage?

I play a lot of very hard games and I kinda take pride in that (how pathetic...) so I almost never cheat in games. If I absolutely have to though I may lower the difficulty.

Depends on game really. Online games - never. Solo games - sometimes, especially when i've already beaten the game, enjoyed the mayhem and crave for more.

If it's a singleplayer game, I never cheat and try to give myself a challenge. If it's a MMO that seems too grindy or p2w, I always sooner or later resort to cheats, because creating cheats is then considered a better challenge.

Not playing online games anymore, on singleplayer games try to figure out thing on my own. Sometimes refer to walkthroughs and wikis, but not too much.

I used to mess around with cheats way more as a kid, firstly because I was awful, and couldn't progress otherwise, but also I really enjoyed messing with games and seeing things the developers didn't intend for you to see. That last part is why I still use them sometimes, another reason is for modding purposes, for testing the changes I made and other mechanics more easily.

But in general as I grew older, I started using cheats less, as I'm very obsessed with proving to myself that I can beat the game "the intended way". I will even sometimes refuse to take temporary powerups and other things that would help in a scenario, because I have this thought at the back of my head "well, what if I didn't have that extra bit of help? I have to make sure to beat it at my weakest, so I'm prepared for the worst case scenario". It is rather silly, but it's the way I do most things. I also tend to play off-meta, not because I want it to be harder, but just by the virtue of the things I enjoy playing it often ends up being sub-optimal.

In general, if it's a single player/non competitive game - it's totally ok to use cheats, if that improves your enjoyment of the game. I do also tend to overuse game wikis, but personally I don't see that as a detriment either. In fact, in some cases I think would've hated a few games if I played them fully blind šŸ˜….

I play a lot of very hard games and I kinda take pride in that (how pathetic...)

I don't think there's anything pathetic in it. Maybe I say this as also a person who feels a little proud of beating certain games fair and square, but who cares if that accomplishment "isn't useful in real life"? Especially for us, suicidal folks. Take pride in it, and don't let anyone tell you it's wrong!

Only rarely. And in games I actually enjoy, never. Also I only ever play singleplayer games, so even if I cheated would impact literally no one. The reason I don't cheat is that there is no point in it, especially when you have game that you can both enjoy and win often enough and don't intend climbing higher difficulties, disregarding that vanity trap of pushing yourself into frustration.

I did twice. Back in csgo a couple years ago. And then GTA5 back in 2014. I don't like cheating nor do I condone it. I never really did anything to annoy anyone. The only thing I was doing was giving myself free cs skins and money in gta lol

Cheating on consoles got a lot more difficult. I can remember the time with my Nintendo DS and action replay device. The same goes for the GBA. I loved to cheat in Pokemon games. I think I ruined the experience for many by trading cheated pokemon. I had so many legendary Pokemon as shiny. I loved walking through wall. Or to cheat these really amazing events that usually only can be placed if you participate in the original Nintendo event.

The way you can cheat in GTA5 annoyed me a little bit. I played in on my console. The code has to be entered every single time. But it was fun to storm the military base when you are invincible.

I also cheated on Animal Crossing having infinite money.

I think cheating got a lot more difficult on the NIntendo Switch. You have to hack your console I think. Some will say that's pretty easy. But I never wanted to hack my console.

I wonder whether these action replay companies ever paid NIntendo. I have doubts in that except some fines.

Yes, I cheat on video games with other video games. I can't keep playing the same games over and over again, it's just not the same, I'm sorry. I just can't stop myself, it's an addiction at this point

Me too. Mostly the story, the graphics, music and immersive experience. I like some challenge though. Just probably not the 'normal' amount.

That's a good take on it... I feel that way about my tools. When I get new tools or, a new brand, I feel like I'm being unfaithful. Lol.

I actually phoned the Nintendo Helpline as a little kid! I wanted help with Banjo-Kazooie and the man instantly knew the exact part of the game I was talking about, it was really impressive.

That's brilliant. I watched a documentary on them once and I think they had to play the games themselves to find out. I'm not sure they had cheat books.

Did he know straight away or, did he have to phone you back?

I guess the internet has put paid to those jobs.

To think though- I likely would have finished more games if I knew they existed. I've had to watch walk throughs to see on YouTube in the end. Not that they were very long endings back then...

But to respond seriously because I forgot last time, I don't cheat in video games. Unless you consider quick saving in games like Stalker cheating, I really don't like losing 40 minutes of progress because I got jumped by a random Chimera spawn. Well back when I played Stalker anomaly.

He knew immediately, not even a pause for thought. I guess it was the big game of the moment though and one of the early levels in the game, so maybe if I'd asked for something more obscure it may have gone differently.

I assume those sorts of people went on to become guide writers for sites like IGN.

I try not to cheat on videogames (usually play single player), except on those that I play "for the story" if they get very difficult. Genres like strategy games and such no.

No, I played lot of call of duty and never tried anything that would be considered cheating. Defeats the purpose really. Like what's the point. For me I don't really get frustrated. If I'm maybe slightly above average that's all I need to have fun and it's not hard to get to that level. I would never cheat in any game where I play against real players, I'd feel shit honestly. The most I did was try to mess with sound settings on my windows to get better spacial audio but I got nowhere. There are some audio mods that are allowed and every professional cod player uses but I never cared enough to install it. Prob I would if it was easy and I guess it's kinda borderline cheating because you can hear spacial audio way clearer and more accurate. Other aggressive hacks like aimbot and wallhacks, I absolutely despise and I wouldn't enjoy playing like that at all. It's a game, you play for fun and hacks take all the unpredicability and skill out of it. I don't understand why anyone would wanna use it really.
In singleplayer games, I could see myself running mods if I cared enough but I don't so never did and never will.

That's understandable. I would also consider it cheating if playing against other people. I only play solo though. Plus- not really shooters either. It's when I get stuck on puzzles or narrative lines- I tend to start looking on YouTube. Because I want to see the whole game. I prefer to play survival games slightly more relaxed too. I'm playing them mostly for the graphics/ effects- rather than the jump scares. I don't much like absolutely everything in sight trying to kill me. But then, some challenge is still nice. It can be hard to find the balance sometimes. Guess it depends on what we enjoy though- or, play for.

Cheating like in online games using hacks? No, that's fn lame. F those people who do that.

Now if I'm playing a single player game like GTA San Andreas, i'm def putting in the codes to get the guns and money. If I'm playing a game that has like puzzles and mazes and I can't figure it out. I'm going to YouTube and watching a walkthrough. If I'm playing a super hard boss fight and I'm constantly losing. I'm putting it on easy to get past it to progress the story. If those are considers cheating then yeah I guess I do.

I do sometimes if there's a mechanic that's disrupting the fun gameplay loop. It's sometimes a struggle though once I start, if I use too many, it disrupts the game itself…

Yes, I cheat in online video games. I often participate in the black markets of MMOs (as in, selling in-game items or services for real world currency, which is usually against the rules) and being able to use cheats just makes it easier to acquire goods to sell. After all, since I'm already breaking the rules and will receive the harshest punishment, why not go all in and make my life easier while I'm at it?

I very rarely cheat in singleplayer games, unless I am looking to test something or I just want to power trip a little.
