I'm middle-aged and in my lifetime it feels like the world has become an unbearably terrible hellscape. When we cannot cope and compete in this rat race we blame and hate ourselves and become deeply unhappy.
I feel that we're facing oppression death and misery on a biblical scale. I don't know precisely what form all this will take I just feel that it's coming.
Of course the more you live the more jaded cynical and crushed by life you become so obviously you're not going to be very positive.

I am not religious but I feel that we can only save ourselves by accepting a higher power that promotes the well being of all.

Joking aside, honestly...the more we know about how the world runs, the more we become aware of how we are stuck here, with no way to change it. While I think the world becomes worse depending on the current landscape, our vision also becomes different once we start seeing the ways we are cheated off of a good things, or even things we may deserve due to what we endure here.

There is plainly a far right trend in politics everywhere.
Hatred of outgroups is encouraged by influencers and politicians.
Then there is the rampant narcissism that's everywhere which has been turbo charged by social media.
Social media has just exposed how despicable people generally are.
It feels like all this toxicity hatred jealousy selfishness and bitterness is only going to be pacified by an immense amount of violence death and oppression.

Like someone on reddit put quite aptly:

"Sometimes we live through the bad parts of history."

That's where we are right now. A bad part of history. It's completely normal to have negative reactions to that. Especially when we are being left with fewer and fewer peaceful options and people will refuse to defend themselves physically. So we are all basically waiting here to die because people believe (falsely) we are a more civil species than we are.

Yes, it does. Not just the toxicity of doomscrolling, but the horrific reality of what goes on behind the scenes that escapes the public venocular. The system will drive one to death. If fortunate, by the luxury of one's own hand. Never has the world been in such pain.

Funny. I always thought one fueled the other. The violence and oppression are almost always perpetrated by those who think of themselves better than others, that they know better, and deserve better, to a degree that dehumanizes and objectifies. The pathological feeling of superiority is almost always going to lead towards the dehumanization of whatever minority (Or even majority, perhaps) one deems unworthy of being treated humanely. Slavery, for example, has always been justified by the slavers postulating that slaves are less than human: animals, objects, tools to be used and discarded.

This is not to say that the everyperson shouldn't feel like they know more, or deserve more. The line is drawn when we let those feelings dehumanize others. I'm talking pathological here, to a degree that endangers human dignity and life.
