I genuinely do try to keep my room and bathroom tidy, but it seems within a few days it becomes a den of filth every week. Too many clothes, piles of bottles, trash etc. It's exhausting and almost feels unnatural. What shouldn't be an issue considering how active I am in keeping it up to par is almost pointless. It really brings me down knowing that even simple cleanliness is beyond me at this point despite my best efforts.

I don't understand the piles of bottles part.

Cleaning is a monotonous chore that nobody wants to do especially if you suffer from depression. I really have to push myself to keep my apartment clean. The hairs and the dust never stop accumulating and I live alone and have no pets.
It's just one more irritating aspect of being alive.

Yes. My house is absolutely disgusting because I never clean. It happens everywhere I live unless I'm living with someone else. Then it's usually just confined to my room and I can keep common areas clean. I'm worried I'll be evicted over it but I'm disabled so I'm hoping if the time comes I can just pawn it off on that and be covered by ADA law

Yes it's a problem.... I have a runny nose most of the time so I always have tissues close by.. or napkins or whatever... And somehow they always end up every where. Bottles to.... Like I'll drink a bottle of water and put it in my little trash can. Swear I'll empty it as soon as it's full.... And again it seems to over flow and be on the floor before I finally force myself to pick it all up and out to trash.

It's not something I try to do..infact I try and keep from it most of the time but I fall into a bad depression spike and boom there it is.

Similar here. I do wash the dishes and take out the trash, but I haven't vacuumed my flat since July. I just do some brooming/sweeping when the floor gets really dirty. Cleaning (half-hearted) the toilet and bathroom when they start to stink. Washing the floors, windows, etc. - forget about it.

Yes, I try to clean my room, but it is very difficult as there is so much stuff. Years ago I had an obsession with buying things, and I cannot make myself get rid of any of it. I hate cleaning. I do not have the energy for it. I am so tired of this pointless, empty existence.

Yes. :( My apartment has gotten progressively more cluttered and dirty in the last 5-10 yrs especially. Between the depression sapping my energy and making me apathetic, it's hard for me to physically do things like heavy deep cleaning and keeping up on mopping floors and such. And I've lived here for 18 years and the carpets are disgusting and sooo filthy (also torn up and destroyed in spots because of them). To top it off, there's something wrong with my furnace/vent system and for about 18 mos now when either the central air or heat is on, this sooty black stuff that is so fine and heavy in amount blows out and literally covers EVERYTHING: walls, ceilings, even gets INTO CLOSED CUPBOARDS and drawers. I can't keep up so I've said fuck it, let everything get filthier and messier. Also I buy too much crap and so there's pile of clutter everywhere and the thought of packing and sorting through it all tires me out and is one of the reasons I've never moved out. I just don't have the energy to do all that needs to be done and I have no friends or family to help...although I'd be so incredibly embarrassed to have anyone see the way I live so I'm kind of thankful I have no one that comes around and sees the chaos and pigsty I live in.

I always did a very bad job when I lived alone to keep my place clean. I dont think I am a dirty person but definitely messy. I dont enjoy cleaning or washing dishes but I like doing laundry. I hate that after only couple of days of cleaning the place it turns out messy again

Yes,. It's something I've been struggling with for a few years now. I've never really been a dirty / messy person but since I've gotten suicidal , my anxiety and depression hit the roof so I have a much harder time keeping up with cleaning. Main issue with me is my truck,. It looks like a Fckn tornado went through it,. Makes me sick to my stomach. =\. I'll make progress sometimes,. But then I get a case of the fuck it's and I will just stare into the mess, get pissed off and walk away. Fml.

Me: spends 2 hours to tidy up the bedroom, wipe the dust etc.
Next day: it looks the same as before tidying up
Me: You know what? Fuck this bullshit.

(I still do it after because I'm a clean freak)

Keeping my flat clean and tidy is second nature to me being ex-army, l fold all my clothes and put them away in separate drawers and my footwear on a shoe rack.Trouble is l have the same problem as @FuneralCry l don't like throwing good clothes out so l have loads of out of style clothing(most of it brand new) that I bought 20yrs ago that l don't know what to do with?

Absolutely. Somatic and psychiatric conditions (plus living alone which means no sharing of chores) equals constant disaster. Plus the bins where I live are soooo far away from my apartment unit :p

Oh absolutely. I live in complete filth. Not as bad as some of those hoarders but still pretty bad. I don't know why, it irritates me but I cant be bothered other than changing the cat litter and wash dishes.

I struggle to even brush my teeth and put on socks in the morning.
No energy, self sabotage, and the overall feel of dread don't help at all.

I can't keep things tidy or even clean most of the time either. I was never tidy but it's gotten much worse over the past few years and I think it has made me less clean as a result.
