It provides an easy scapegoat on which to blame people's suicides. This person didn't kill themselves because of the inhuman working conditions to which they were subjected in that Amazon warehouse or because social media is making us all lonely and destroying our self-esteem. No, no: they killed themselves because the undesirables in some crazy internet cult brainwashed them. There you go.

I see where you're coming from but why not just blame depression like they always have? The way they speak of depression makes it seem like we are delusional and unable to make decisions for ourselves and they can also claim that our state of being is caused by a "lack of serotonin" rather than environmental factors.
They hate this site because it gives people easier ways of escaping this world and because it brings us comfort by giving us a platform where we can express our pro-choice ideas clearly.

i didnt think about it like that before but i do think that makes sense. instead of bettering society and workplaces they attack cultures online that have open conversations on taboo subjects like suicide. they would much rather target powerless individuals than to actually fix their broken system.

Lol. It won't be closed down because it's a community like any other. If they get rid of it, it will just move somewhere else less accessible. That said I seriously doubt the powers at be are paying attention or frankly care. What's another tormented soul, dead body. Frankly you nailed it we are undesirables. Our suffering just doesn't matter. I'd be surprised if it did because I don't see a congressman caring enough to put in the work to shut it down. I wouldn't stress.

But if it's not a website, I just think that suicides would be blamed on someone being "mentally ill" instead as people don't wish to face the fact that wanting suicide is perfectly logical in such a horrible world that is filled with endless suffering. Delusional people in denial would use any excuse in order to avoid facing the harsh reality of this existence, where suicide is actually a desirable option as it solves all problems and is the way for one to take control over their inevitable fate.

Well, we shouldn't philosophical fervor or whatever get in the way of recognizing that there are very particular systems and individuals making the world worse than it could otherwise be either. That in some cases a given individual might not be destined to suffer under any circumstance.

The risk is becoming tools of the system, passive witnesses of abuse. Some people here seem as if they simply need too much help. No, I don't mean "the help": that's useless, of course. I mean resources, companionship, a way out, a plan, sense of worth, a community. I feel sad I'm so dysphoric and devoid of social resources, so broken that I cannot do anything about it. Admitting that life is not miserable for everyone all of the time in some scenarios not far from the one we live in is maybe the least we can do, idk.

Kinda reminds me of the whole videogames are responsible for school shootings BS in the early to mid 2000s. It was easier back then to try to ban games than to address the real issues like bullying. And now it is easier to ban a site, than to spent money.
