  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

Why is it so many people are afraid to talk about death and make it a taboo subject. Nearly 150,000 people die, around the world, each day and yet society still has a tough time with the concept. Now, I understand that the people who enjoy life don't want to even think about dying, however, they to still have to embrace their mortality. On average the human lifespan is 70+. While, it is true, others can live to their 80's and 90's, a lot of those folks will have serious health issues by then. Hell, young kids are dying in children's hospitals, so nobody is even promised to live into old age even if they would like to. So, death should be talked about more and made less frightening. It is a natural process that comes to us all. Every journey has an end. Good or bad.

I also don't understand why we don't discuss it more. It's one of the only things (besides birth) that all living organisms experience. I think people simply don't like to think about it, I wouldn't know how that feels though because I have chronic depression and all I think about is death.

I agree, death is our only purpose and true intention. Death makes all life meaningless, and life is just one big distraction. Many people are just uncomfortable thinking about their own mortality because as humans we are programmed to survive and live. Many people would see it as sensitive as talking about death would bring up painful memories of relatives that are no longer with them and can upset them. It is the unknown for many people, of what lies after this life.
I see death as comforting really, and I like to think about it as it is freedom from a life that has always been against me.

Yes, people should discuss death in the society. Death is taboo in the time we live in now. People are not used to death and I believe that people are stupid. But as time goes on, these people will discuss death because we all must die of something. When people live 90 or 100 years, they will suffer of age-related ailments.

That's what I've been saying for years! People are scared of it. Like if it's out of sight then it's out of mind but I think it's important to make peace with it. It's going to happen regardless. It shouldn't be feared. To other people that means giving up, accepting it or something. To them it's like allowing people to go out there and just kill.

I totally agree!!
It's not only about suicide, it's about DEATH!!

Why are people ignoring it so much?
What's the point of bringing more humans into a planet and universe which will just stop existing?

There should be nothing rather than something.

This world is really nonsense.

I wish I could be a normie and just ignore these facts! (Well, not really, I have lots of flaws but I really like to be CONSCIOUS about this stuff)

Death by suicide. We really need to have an honest conversation about this. It's no one's life, except for mine. I can do whatever I want. It's my right to die.

We can't really have an honest conversation if there's a risk of being sent to PYCH ward. In a sense, it's a freedom of speech issue as well. Hell, SS is in deep waters in its early stage because it's been described as a "pro-suicide" forum when it's a pro-choice one.

I don't buy into the idea that 'death is inevitable ergo life is pointless and human beings should stop reproducing.'

For one thing. We are genetically programmed to multiply. That's our main goal as multicellular life forms.

But I also believe death is what gives life value. The fact that our lives are limited by a finite timespan makes each moment, whether joyful or painful, precious. If we lived for ever and couldn't experience pain or suffering, life would be very boring.

I hope it's not in poor taste to remind you of the fact that I & many other members were sexually &/or physically abused as children for years... Exactly what is precious about those humiliating, horrifying moments, hours, days, months & years? :eh: What is precious about the moments when we are haunted by unbearably painful flashbacks? :eh:

I'm more concerned about the fact that masses of people are still mindlessly reproducing despite all of the evidence of why this is a completely shitty thing to do.

Holy cope. You know boredom is one form of suffering too, right?
