In the newspapers you read so often how evil suicide forums and their members are. I think this not true.
I will list some points which I believe count as good deeds. You do not have to agree with all of them. I just want to express that outsiders have a wrong view on such websites. Maybe some of them would agree to some points of the list. The only difference we might have is the fact that I think adults should have the right to die. I would prefer very liberal assisted suicide laws all over the world in order to prevent that people in temporary crisis commit suicide. But as long as there are no such laws in this world such places like this are a necessity. (With very liberal I mean not this bullshit we have currently. Only rich people can afford it, if you had depression/psychosis they claim you would not be able to make the choice. I get it when someone has an acute psychosis they should not ctb. But it is a joke. I think one member once mentioned 5% of assisted suicides are in Belgium for mentally ill. I have no source for that. But I just read in the Netherlands 1% of all assisted suicides are for mentally ill people. This is a fucking joke. Compared to the fact how many feel forced for example to jump in front of trains. Psychiatrists laughed me out of the room when I told them I want assisted suicide. Fuck them.
Okay I come to my list. I believe in human rights and one right is to determine about one's death. I try to help minorities when they are oppressed (suicidal people are a minority and are often not well treated by the society.) I think we should help poor people and the weak more in our society. It is a shame how we treat homeless people. I hate doing something illegal and try to avoid it as good as possible. I believe in rights for trans-people. (probably the most controversial point on this list.) I despise antisemitism. I think women should be treated equally in our society. I think it is right to help refugees. (also very controversial.) Many people on this planet are just work slaves. We treat animals like garbage. We torture animals daily because we have the arrogance to feel superior to weaker sentient beings. Everyone should have a health insurance and should have the opportunity to get the best treatment before they decide to commit suicide. You don't get that from fucking Klobuchar NYT and you know that. Don't pretend you would be in favor of the weak.
I am running out of points. Maybe the last point. I think journalism should be paid well. Many people do not valuate good journalism. Media is important to inform the people about grievances (I hope that is the right word.) With great power there comes great responsibility. To portray us all as evil is not only misleading it is evil itself. Many people feel support from this website. Many people only can make it through the day knowing there is an exit if life turns once again unbearable. There was absolutely no nuance in your article. You act like we were all some insane people who cheer at each other when we commit suicide. The vast majority is not even pro-death on this website. It annoys me. The guys from unherd.com made a way better job. Instead your sensationalistic black-white thinking NYT.
