Hi everyone,
New member here. I've applied to my town's day hospital thing following my shrink's recommandations.
I had heard of it before, but the idea that you could be "hospitalised" without actually staying at the hospital somehow felt pretty abstract to me.
I applied willingly. I want to exhaust all other alternative before I'd commit to ending it for good. Being unemployed for a while, undergoing therapy and treatment 10+y for depression and alcoholism, going through another trying dépressif épisode has brought me to consider this option. I have stayed in clinics before so I felt confident I'd find my mark quick.
Here's the wiki article about it. I'm in France and we call them "HĂ´pital de jour". Had no idea these structures were also in use elsewhere before I started snooping.

Essentially, you're given a timetable set of activities to choose from in order to fill in a planning for the entire week. From Mon to Fri, from 9am to 4:30pm you are expected to show up to the hospital for planned activities, medication, meals... There are nurses and carers on site as well as amenities you'd expect to find i a clinic (depends where your end up I hear it can really suck)
I am going on my 5th week now and things are smooth. Patients and and carers have managed to cultivate a chill vibe, it's hard not to be endeared as a newcomer. I can see it on the new ones coming now, their faces start looking a bit better by the start of the second week or so... But about the other patients: most of them are older. Like waaay older. I'm in my early 30s so I do feel slightly out of place at times but it's cool
It's brought me a (soft but consistent) structure for my entire week. Big improvement as in of itself, but I am still bogged down bad when it comes to wanting to do anything at all on my own so far.
So my question is : how did your experience with day hospital go ? Has it been something that's been of any help long-term ? I would like to know more !
Thank you for your time
Be well, and Courage all
