CTB with inert gas - mask or bag?

Hello mates.

Ought to be CTB in a few weeks. After the overdose that I was rescued from, I am going to use a gas.

I am pondering both the exit bag and a breathing mask like industrial respirator or diving mask.

If i use a cartridge respirator I think it might work to block off one side and attach and seal a bag to the other side to get a supply of the gas at a comfortable pressure for breathing.

Any ideas or anecdotes here?

I am looking at divers mask as well. It has inlet for gas and is sealed. We need to have a discussion about this. Cheers

My problem is i live inland and don't know where to get a diving mask. Might have to buy one online

Any luck getting the mask - I have my nitro on order- will take a few weeks. And if anyone else is reading this, what are your thoughts about how effective a divers mask would be? thanks

What size nitrogen tank are you getting? Since the FEN volunteers are apparently traveling with them I am assuming they aren't very large (ie 80cf or smaller.)

I haven't found a mask yet and I'm still thinking I can make do with a bag or respirator. A diving mask might be costly.

There are dozens of places near me where I can simply go buy a bottle of helium or nitrogen. Nitrogen is heaps cheaper and there are plenty of excuses to give as to your intended use of it.

I found a cheap flow regulator but it will need some work to adapt to the nitrogen bottle. See my other post ripping on the price of the max dog regulator kit. Maybe I will be proven wrong but I think I can come up with an easy and cheap way to adapt it to the nitrogen bottle.

Nitschke's Exit organization is (hopefully) supposed to release the "debreather" sometime this month. It's a mask type of device that peacefully induces asphyxiation. You don't have to "do" anything. Just put it on and you're gone in a short period of time...if it works how I think it does. You can read an update about it on the last page of this thread:

@MiCa, I'm not entirely sure how you plan to use a diving mask along with your MadDog kit. I take it you are not comfortable with using an Exit bag? The regulator which comes with the MadDog kit is designed-around/central/integral to the use of an Exit bag.

When it comes to using the inert gas method, CO2 is the issue, and it's the removal is key to success. If CO2 is allowed to build up it will eventually trigger a reaction called the Hypercapnic (high carbon dioxide) Alarm Response. This alarm will cause you to pull any device from your head which is causing the CO2 build-up .

When using an Exit bag, the inert gas plays two roles: provides an oxygen free environment, and aids the removal of CO2 - the steady flow of inert gas from the top of the bag pushes the CO2 out the bottom of the bag.

The MadDog regulator ensures the flow of the inert gas is sufficient to push the CO2 from of the bag.

Thank you. I have no probs constructing one, more like my sucess at getting it right. I am waiting for the PPeH information about the new breather rebreatheter kits that should soon be available

Working on a diy debreather as we speak. All that remains is some plumbing. Less than EI as well.

i thought the expense of the supplies was just an attempt to stop young people using them
