Hi,

I plan on carrying out CTB with a 9mm gun. I would like to know if I shoot myself right above the ear is there any pain? Do I die immediately?

I don't know... that's the main reason why I haven't used mine. I've had various weapons, throughout the course of history ... but every time I put one in my mouth, or to the side of my head I kept getting the what if thought.

That's why my chosen method is the exit bag. I do not want to be conscious when I die. Not even for a split second of it.

Please do your research...but there is an infamous live suicide by a news anchor named Christine xyz in the 70's. I believe she discovered the right way to CTB by gun. I think it's supposed to be right behind the ear. There's a movie I think called Christine with Rachel something something. Look into that story/movie. The family made sure the live TV footage is iron shut.... but how she did it, news articles, etc. is still out there. I'm sorry I forgot her name. Please do your own research.

I don't know the specific as to where to aim but there's a whole dedicated firearms thread somewhere if someone here is willing to link it. I believe they say to aim at the brain stem. Something to note is that firearms is a pretty brutal method to go out. Although it's a pretty safe call in terms of having a good success rate it is a very messy method. If you have family members or people you care about living with you or who might stumble upon you then it's certainty something to take note of. Best of luck to you friend.

Her name was Christine Chubbuck. Tragic... if she had been able to connect with others, develop meaningful relationships, she'd still be here.

That's another reason why this is not my method. I'm still trying to work out how I'm going to prevent my loved ones from finding my body.... but at least it won't be a mess. I just cannot have the image of my dead body with a bag on my head be a parting image they left with and scarred by.

Above is an image taken from the Firearms thread. I was correct. If you were to hypothetically end your life using a firearm the area you'd want to aim at is the brain stem. The brain stem is highlighted in the image by the pink circle.

Can I ask why? That's a pretty gnarly way to want to go out. Particularly, leaving the bleeding image of you blowing your brains out with your relatives. Not sure what you're going through but I hope you find peace without catching the bus.

Regarding the Firearms thread. Here's some regurgitated information regarding the type of caliber you should be using. Special thanks to @TiredHorse for this info:

Gun calibers can be extremely confusing --the more you look, the more confused you'll get-- but a good rule of thumb could be:

Revolver: anything .38 Special (marginal! --see note under ammunition) or larger --.357, .44, .45 Colt, .45ACP, etc.
Semiautomatic: anything 9mm or larger --.40, 10mm, .357Sig, .45

Avoid in either type of pistols: .22, .25, .32, .380, .38ACP. Will some of these smaller calibers work? Yes --technically. I have a .32 Auto that is likely to be my choice since it'll leave less mess than my .45ACP. The .380, aka 9mm Largo, is a good round, especially with modern ammo. BUT, you had better be very confident of your aim (I have shot competitively). If you are reading this thread with even a shadow of a doubt about where you need to aim, you should not look at these smaller calibers.

Revolver or semiautomatic?:

Revolvers are mechanically simpler and often attract less attention during purchase. You can also find them with a 2" "snub nose" barrel that makes them very easy to handle.

Semiautomatics have become far more common than revolvers, so might be easier to acquire, but they are more mechanically complex.

And once again, Hollywood is a shitty place to learn about how to use either.

Ammunition:

Always, always, always use hollowpoints, sometimes abbreviated in conversation and on the box itself "JHP" (Jacketted Hollow Point). JHPs deliver all the kinetic force of the bullet in as short a distance as possible. I.e., into your head, rather than into the wall on the other side of you. The brand doesn't matter; they all work.

If you are using a .38 Special revolver, which is marginal, look for ammunition labled "+P" or "+P+". These are designations meaning the ammunition has been loaded with more powder than the standard ammunition, and thus will deliver more power.

Christene Chubbuck used a .38 special and died. idk what ammo she used . could've been hollowpoint or fmj .

i agree hollowpoint will explode all energy into brain

will 9mm handgun hollowpoint most always penetrate the skull at point blank range or a contact shot ?

i'm guessing a 12 gauge shotgun slug placed in the same area behind the ear on the side of head will explode the head as in gleb korablev ? also a 30.06 rifle 150 grain bullet going 2800 fps ? what about an ar-15 55 grain bonded gold dot going 2900 fps ?

i have black magic breneke slug 12 gauge says 1500 fps but with a 18.5 inch it's 1444 fps . coincidence gleb's video was the classic 1444

i would advise against doing that. if you miss your shot, this means emergency services will be called immediately and there's a chance you'll survive

So many people here keep talking about sucide notes, loved ones, leaving letters and other kinds of BS. I watch gore videos all day and find pleasure in seeing different methods of death and how people kill themselves and loose their mind. I see death as something to be celebrated. Life has no meaning going to the void(death) is the biggest reason of us being here, it should be accelerated for everyone.

then i don't understand the point of your post. wouldn't dying painfully suit your tastes? if death is something to be celebrated, surely pain should be too?
anyhow, your reply has nothing to do with the observed flaw in your plan, so im assuming you dont mind if you fail your attempt?
whatever the case, previous replies are right, you should aim at the brain stem.

I apologise. You're right, thanks for pointing out my hypocrisy in the same nasty energy i portrayed earlier. Just going through a lot of pain mentally. I was being edgy and immature because I couldn't think rationally. No I don't plan on killing myself at the dinner table nor do I want any pain. I do plan on shooting myself at a secondary isolated location and I don't plan on leaving any suicide note as I dont see it as a bad thing my family is aware im suicidal. I've dropped passive hints many times so it won't be a shock to anyone as I'm not full of life anyways.

In terms of specifics I have no idea. Once again, like I said in my initial response, all of that information was directly pulled from user @TiredHorse. All credits goes to them as I just directly quoted via copying and pasting what he said. Maybe they will see me tagging them and hopefully answer your question. Sorry I can't help any further. I'd love to but I genuinely don't know.
