CTB via shotgun (legal obtainment)

I plan to ctb using a shotgun through the mouth to the brain stem because I am a and don't want to feel any pain whatsoever. But obtaining a shotgun seems to be so difficult. I live in MA and when applying for a firearms license, they told me it would take 8 months just to get the fingerprint call, that doesn't even include how long it would take for the actual card to deliver in the mail.

So I decided to try to fly to another state that is more lenient. The problem with this however, is that I would have to pay for flights (I have 2 credit cards that I can max out, and of course it wouldn't matter if I don't pay them off if I'm not here anymore), and if you want to purchase a firearm in another state, you have to establish residency there, which usually includes providing some sort of proof you live there such as with a lease, deed, or some other rental agreement. After doing some research, I've seen that South Dakota might be the easiest to obtain a firearm; apparently you can just stay at a motel for like a day and use the receipt as a rental agreement to establish residency and eventually get the gun. I want to see if it is the same for other states but it seems like I would have to individually call each state's DMV and ask if a short-stay motel agreement would suffice.

So I just wanted to ask you guys what you would do in this situation and/or how are you obtaining firearms to ctb.

Oof, MA is one of the harder states to get a gun in. Ok, first things first, you are going to have to wait a long time before getting your gun, even if you do everything right. Think maybe 1- 2 months, but probably not 8 months. Secondly, you cannot fly to another state to purchase your firearm. Massachusetts law is chained to you, I'm afraid. Some states allow this with caveats, Massachusetts is not one of those states.


From my brief overview of MA Gun Law, here is how you do it.

1. Be at least 18 and not federally prohibited from possessing a firearm(You must not be a felon, illegal immigrant, or adjudicated mentally defective. Mentally defective means a court of law deemed you mentally defective, not just going to the hospital for suicidality or self harm, though it is possible for those cases to escalate to a court).
2. Take a state-approved Basic Firearms Safety Course(Must be endorsed by Massachusetts, you pay for the test).
3. Apply for a FID card with your local Police Department(They have the forms, all police departments in MA provide this. You need a valid Basic Firearms Safety Course Certification, Government Identification, pay a $100 fee, and potentially residency forms)
4. Wait for the FID card application to be approved.
5. Once approved(or if you are denied, you cannot proceed) and have the card, you can now walk into any firearm dealer and purchase your shotgun.

Important Notes:
You must comply with handling, transportation, storing laws.
For this type of license, you cannot buy semiautomatic shotguns or shotguns above 5 shell capacity.

While this all may sound discouraging, it is possible. If you wish to endure these challenges anyways, you can accomplish CTB with firearms. If you do wish to do this route, I would advise you to take the time waiting for the FID card to think deeply about your goals and if you truly wish to go through with this. I actually already did the firearm course and completed the application last month, I called them a few days after that and they told me 8 months. Someone even made an online calculator to estimate when you would receive your fingerprint call and I've heard its pretty accurate (https://mass-ltc-wait-time-calculator-749ax9it6pstutpgms4g4s.streamlit.app/). Of course its not official, but I did the application on July 2nd, and it says I'll get the call in March next year. Really don't want to wait that long!

Now as for doing this in another state, I really believe it is possible, but of course I want to know for sure 100% before I get to the new state (imagine I get there and it turns out I can't even get the gun; I don't think I would have enough money to book a flight back to MA, essentially I would be stranded in a new state alone). I wanted to ctb the weekend my college semester starts (in about 2 weeks) because I would already have bags and luggage packed for the flight since I'm dorming.

After a quick search it seems like a ghost gun is obtained using 3D printing parts of a gun to then be assembled later. I don't even know where to begin with this so if you have anymore information please let me know!

So I did more research and actually ended up coming up with a plan. I organized everything because it involves steps that I really can't mess up or else the whole plan fails (the flight for example). I'll try to explain everything clearly:

1. The only state that this plan works in is in South Dakota because you can establish residency/domicile in literally one day, as long as you have the documents seen on the row that says "Driver's License". It is possible in other states, but they require more documents (for example, I believe you can do this in Nevada but you need to stay there for at least 30 days before you can get your ID).

2. How do I get to South Dakota? Well the only option is to fly there, and I managed to get a first class flight (I figured why not have a little fun and try something new considering what will happen in the days after). Somehow, I was approved by one of those monthly payment services. The whole cost for the flight was like $800 with $200 every 2 weeks I believe, but since I won't be around by the time those 2 weeks come, it wouldn't matter if I don't pay them off. Same thing for the hotel I got (you need a physical receipt from a hotel as one of the documents you need to get your ID/driver's license). The whole hotel cost was $300, with an initial payment of $15 and $30 every month. Again, won't matter if I'm not here.

3. Two more documents you need are the residency affidavit (easy to get, just a paper to sign) and a document showing you have a personal mailbox address in the state. The cheapest and fastest way to get this (I believe) is through getting an appointment at the nearest UPS Store and buy a mailbox there. They will give you proof that you own a mailbox in the state and can bring it to the DMV.

4. I found the cheapest shotgun and ammo (12 gauge, buckshot) I found nearby, a little more than $300.

5. I got the money to pay for all this stuff through a job I had a couple months ago and 2 credit cards I own (another expense that, won't matter if its not paid off).

The exact price of some things aren't exact, such as the Ubers I would need to take to get everywhere, just estimates I made through using the "book later" feature in the app. But I should end up having a few hundred dollars left over.

Now here's the thing, if, for whatever reason, this doesn't end up working, I would basically be stranded in South Dakota with no way of getting home. I probably wouldn't be able to book another flight as I would have to pay off the credit cards and monthly payments for the first class flight and hotel (the rest of my money would be used up). So honestly if that happens, I think I'll just start a new life in South Dakota.

But all in all I still can't really believe I managed to get the hotel and flight for super cheap. I'm actually really excited to experience the flight in particular! I get to larp and dress up formal like a businessman in first class lol

And in my situation, I didn't tell anyone I where I was. Went to a whole new fucking state to do this method, got to the very last step, and its over just like that.

ATP the only thing I can think of doing now is ctb via hanging, which voids the whole reason why I wanted to do it via firearm because I didn't want to feel any pain whatsoever.

I have to check out of my hotel tomorrow morning and return my rental car tomorrow night. After that, I'll basically be homeless. I have some money left so I could probably extend my stay, but eventually it'll run out.

I'm sorry, I hate to hear that. You really can't see a path forward?

My journey was going ok until it wasn't. I hope to wrap things up in the next few months. My method is inert gas (with SN as a backup) and I expect it to be… not completely comfortable, but basically painless.

I managed to think of two other options because I really don't want to go out in such a painful way:
1. I technically committed a crime that I wanted to try before I ctb, just to try it at least once (ik it sounds weird but idk if im allowed to say it here). So I might try to turn myself in to the police. This why I'll at least have somewhere to stay.
2. I was raised Catholic, so I might go to a nearby church and try to become one of those religious brothers that live the rest of their lives peacefully (ironic ik, considering the subject matter). This path would definitely be interesting

Tbh, with how secretive SN or N or whatever its called is, I just stayed away from trying that method. But hopefully you don't end up in the same situation I'm in where you plan everything, but one unpredictable thing just ruins it all.
