So maybe this is just me and also I'm unsure if this is the right forum category but does anyone else kind of dislike the "CTB" acronym?

I understand that it's faster to type but idk... I kind of just like saying what we really mean. Suicide, dying, killing ourselves.
CTB just seems like a watered down version to me?

Why is it so popular? Is it simply because it's faster to type or is it easier for some of you guys to say? Genuinely asking. It's perfectly fine that it's used though, seriously no offense to anyone I'm just curious!

Also this is kind of silly but I always accidentally read it as CBT (cock and ball torture) lmao

It's popular because people think of a bus taking us to another world.
You might be an atheist (just like me) but still, it sounds cool!
I really like the CTB acronym.

Lol, CBT is cognitive behavioral therapy for most people...

As far as CTB it just picked up momentum here and become forum lingo. I don't mind it, and after using the acronym for nearly a year it is a synonym for suicide rather than avoiding the word.

I didn't think of that - makes a bit more sense put that way. I don't really see it that way though so I'll probably continue not using the acronym. Thanks for the reply

I don't mean to say that people are trying to avoid saying suicide just that using it personally feels like I'm watering down what I mean, if that makes sense?

I like it, it's not an acronym that everyone knows, so it's kinda like a secret code.

This can be also because of search companies (Google etc), maybe it's better to not use the real words as often as this to protect the forum. But it is not sure

This website does seem to be lowkey, if I hadn't been actively searching I'm not sure I'd have found this place.

I actually dislike 'CTB' immensely ... and although I have tried it out a few times I find it uncomfortable for me and minimising of the act of suicide which I view as extremely serious and worthy of honouring with the actual word.
I am not suggesting anyone here doesnt think its a serious decision btw.

Yeah I understand, for me CTB doesn't hit the same as saying suicide.

I sometimes use "ctb" because I'm a lazy-ass and don't want to spell out "suicide." Committing suicide itself takes so much effort and also spelling it. Lol

Im not trying to shock anyone when I use 'suicide' I just think its too serious a subject for me to use an acronym particularly one that deflects from the act of suicide.
I can understand 'KMS' because its reality based at least.

Edit: not sure quite how I ended up with the Dutch national airline instead of KMS but changed now lol

I guess most of the people (including me) just use it as it is common within the forum. Never asked myself why just this one.

It came from an old suicide forum (alt suicide holiday - originally for discussing the relationship between heightened suicide rates and the holiday season) that's inactive now, and I believe the term migrated here, perhaps with the users, although I'm not sure.
I think it's just become familiar to use. I'm ambiguous towards it and I don't think many people mean especially to attach something to it other than convenient usage, although I can definitely see how it can feel watered-down.

I would prefer cs for commit suicide or committed suicide. It's more direct. It feels like I'm trying to use cool lingo, which actually isn't cool, to always use ctb.

I just use it as short hand when I do because I'm on mobile and typing can be a pain sometimes. Originally I thought it meant "cease to breath" which I always found poetic. But I guess "catch the bus" is too in a metaphorical sense. Doesn't bother me either way tbh, I spend a lot of time looking up the meaning of initialisms anyway.

I'd rather call it how it is but like with everything else I'm so lazy and it's 3 letters no spaces

I think it's alright, it's watered down but I'm sure ppl here know that suicide is serious and not something to take lightly. I don't mind it, it's quick to write and I like the phrase "catch the bus", I wish I could leave life on the cat bus from totoro

I don't like acronyms in general, but this is some sort of "underground" community, so it makes sense to use them, and the "catch the bus" expression is very good in my opinion.

In a way, we are all waiting at a bus station, but not all of us are taking the same bus, some of us have to wait longer than others, while some may choose to abandon the station and continue with their lives.

It's easy to type and also useful for any conversations beyond SS because saying the word suicide arouses suspicion quite quickly

I am also sick of it but it saves time when typing.
Using "edgy" acronyms, imo, is just evidence of an immature stance towards a serious subject such as suicide. Reminds me of drug addicted communities lingo like chase the dragon or break through or whatever.
In all honesty I do not think it helps society understand such a serious issue as suicide. Instead it creates this "underground" teen/preteen almost cult like division of "us" vs "them".
But it saves time indeed.
