  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is just my subjective thought. Why do people, humanity treat CTB as a way out of the situation? For some it's right, for some it's not. Why not just treat CTB as one of the solutions to your problem that suits you? And what consequences this or that option bears is another story.
Why CTB is considered something special. I'll give you an example. It's like getting sick with a deadly disease, but which will kill you for a long and painful time for 10 years. You have several options, live as you are, try to recover, or CTB.
Each of these three options is good and bad in its own way. There are pros and cons, and everyone decides for himself what to choose.

That's how WE as pro-choicers look at it. It's the anti-choicers who don't want CTB as one of the options. This is a pro-choice forum, not a pro-death forum. Everyone should be able to make the best choice for them in their circumstances.

I think this is how some of would like SaSu to be. Not how it is.

Reading the posts on here I haven't noticed any sort of WE! There is no consensus.

Some people see ctb as a last resort and feel every other option should be explored before ctb is even considered. Some people see ctb as the only option and can't understand why anybody would want to live. It's fine when people apply their own views to themselves.

The problems arise when people try to impose their own views on everyone else.

I guess- for me, I hope CTB is the final solution to my problems. (Although- I'm not sure one way or the other about an afterlife- so maybe it'll be out of the chip pan and into the fire 😬.)

The 'problem' with choosing life is- it's so uncertain. Yes- things could get better but they could also get worse. It really depends on the life I suppose and what you are clinging on to- or- trying desperately hard to get away from.

It depends on how much you value life. So- I've been suicidal to varying degrees since I was 10. I'm now 42. Let's say I went ahead with it back then. Ignoring all the pain it would have caused my family- (which is why I didn't do it then and still haven't done it now) what would I really have 'missed out on?' Granted- it hasn't been ALL bad but I don't feel like there has been enough good to have outweighed the bad. I could have saved myself 32 years of this... (That's me obviously- I suspect other people do go on to live more fulfilling lives if they choose to stay.)

I think the 'problem' with many of us is that we have become tarred with negative experiences. It can become very difficult to look into the future with any hope of it being any better. Many people here will have already tried to 'recover.' Perhaps even multiple times. The more tired and depressed and hopeless you get, the more appealing CTB looks.

CTB is a very complex thing and it's incredibly personal. I think only the individual in question can make the decision- but of course- all decisions are valid. For me personally, I hope I will be at ease with the decision if I ever get to that point- whatever that may be.

Unfortunately it is the only viable option for me in practice. I have long felt forced to complete suicide. I know people may be confused by how you can be forced to do something like suicide, which is a voluntary action by definition. It's not a feeling that I can explain I suppose, but it's very horrible. It is not normal at all and I can't help but wonder why I had to feel this way. With all respect to those people I definitely do not want to be middle-aged or older still longing for death. But that's my fate if I don't act soon.

I'm of this mindset to some degree. I'm not sure how explored an option should be, but maybe just contemplated. For instance, I'm not going to see any shrink, nor am I ever going to take any "happy' pills. But, I thought about it, considered it, and dismissed it. I don't begrudge others who would like to try it though. Maybe it can work for them. It's not for me.

Some people see ctb as the only option and can't understand why anybody would want to live.
Yeah, the nihilists. There are a few around. And there are a few who take it to an extreme level.

Doesn't much matter to me if people express their viewpoints, even if they try, as you say, imposing their views on me. That could ONLY happen if I allowed it. No one can impose their views on someone else without that someone elses permission to do so. I'm the boss of me. That's a part of being pro-choice. Nobody makes decisions for me. I take what I like, and leave what I don't like. Just ignore what you don't like. Being exposed to different viewpoints is not necessarily a bad thing.

Well, after all suicide solves all of life's problems as it removes the true cause of all of them in the first place, so it is the more superior, rational option. I mean what is the benefit to suffering endlessly just to deteriorate and then die, why would anyone want to be tortured and as long as we exist there is unlimited potential for what we experience to get so unbearable, beyond how we can even imagine. It's the ultimate risk continuing to exist which is why the wish to stay here is centred around delusions. People lie to themselves and to others about this, I mean they must do as so many wish to arrogantly gatekeep suicide and many are even completely pro life, which is insane to me. They will just suffer more eventually though. But seriously it's irrational to want to get very old. Like just reading about Dementia is enough on it's own to make me want to die.

But basically, there are an unlimited amount of things wrong with existing and there are no disadvantages to being dead so through logical thinking and having awareness one can come to conclusions about which option makes more sense, but the tragic thing for me is how actually being free from this world is made so difficult for us by the horrific, pro torture world that we exist in. Like it's bad enough that we selfishly had this life inflicted on us, and it's even worse how we have to struggle so much in finding ways to leave, it's complete insanity how suicide is this stigmatised. Continuing to exist is only delaying the inevitable anyway, it's our fate to die and be free from whatever this existence burdened us with.

People can choose to suffer if they want to, but I'm sorry but the idea of 'recovery' is just people deluding themselves. Wanting suicide is not the mental illness, the illness is pro life beliefs, forced optimism and wanting to force suicidal people into therapy.
