Hi,

Does anyone know if it's OK to crush sugar coated tablets?

I have like 15g of Amitriptyline tablets, but they are red sugar coated.

I would imagine it won't make any difference as the sugar coating is purely there to make them more palatable and easier to swallow.

Amitriptyline itself is absorbed by the stomach and small intestine, so I don't think crushing them will impact how they are absorbed.

Anyone have any knowledge on this?

The only tablets that cannot be crushed are enteric coated. Sugar coating does not make a difference.

Thanks for that. All my meds are either film coated or sugar coated. None of them are enteric coated.
