Staying alive while knowing that your life is going to get worse is a huge bravery in my book. Not a cowardice.

You're not a coward at all. It's completely normal to have a fear of death. And it's not about humans being slaves to their instincts. Even if I think rationally about suicide I still have a fear of meeting my end, despite feeling hopeless about my existence and wanting to not exist. And after talking with other people dealing with similar problems I find that they feel the same way. So you're not alone in this.
Also as Macedonian1987 has said, a lot of people would think that you are brave for choosing life, despite it's downsides. So keep your head up.
