yes! the rio de janeiro's new years eve is really famous, I guess. a lot of fireworks (my dogs hate it and so do I).

We have a fireworks show in pretty much every major city. The sydney one which is located in the state that I live is the most notable one and that's the one I watched last night at midnight.

Im also depressed beyond belief. Feels like Groundhog day, another year where we do the same crap over and over again. I'm thinking about new years resolutions at the moment.

The term relates back to a 1993 movie named groundhog day where a pessimistic weatherman played by Bill Murray has to relive the day he hates the most over and over again with no escape. Although it's only a movie it's pretty much a metaphor for our lives when you think about it.
