  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Can anyone recommend a mental counselor (any country can do remote), english speaking that will not just section me for expressing me for expressing desire to suicide? Maybe even takes a fake name? To bypass ethics?

I feel like I am on the brink of mental sanity at this point between my physical illness and desire to CTB and pressure from family to not I think a second opinion would go a long way. Also having the means to CTB has sort of upped the stakes now. I don't mind paying. Therapists that are more in tune with spirituality would be ideal as I think they generally take a less dim view of CTB.

TIA

I'm glad you're looking for one because it shows that you wanna beat the goddamn depression and suicidal thoughts in spite of your problems such as your physical illness.

I'll just send you all my good vibes. I hope you can find a counselor soon!!!

Hugs and love,

Matt

That's going to be difficult. Anyone in the usa would be obligated legally to try to prevent you from ctb. This is too important to take chances with.

It's also risky trying to trust anyone from the forum due to the groups who infiltrate this site. Telling anyone, anywhere of your plans would be taking a risk.

Your best bet would be to try to find one who has the philosophy of only trying to section you if you are going to kill yourself that day or week. If they are doing their job correctly they should only section you if you present as an active threat to yourself. That should give you enough to be able to talk openly with them about what you listed above but you likely aren't going to get a second opinion that isn't biased. They are likely going to try to do safety plans as well. (I assumed you were american when writing this so if you are not this might be useless or different in your country.)

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my thread. Your idea is good, but I think that would still be pretty risky. How could I truly find out their philosophy of sectioning based on immediacy of plans?

I guess I am looking more along the lines of talking to a psychologist in another country where they wouldn't be obligated to communicate with US law enforcement. Or perhaps a different type of counsellor where they aren't bound by the same rules about reporting suicide plans. Or just if it would be workable to give completely false personal information.

I find it strange that all the laws around reporting suicide plans means that I can't really seek therapy when I actually could potentially benefit from it. I am under the care of doctors but I can't broach the subject with them at all. Recently I asked for a particular medication that is potentially addictive to try to lessen my symptoms. My doctor basically said they weren't comfortable prescribing it and referred me to another doctor who might. But I've been seeing them for a number of years now. If they knew I was literally weeks away from suicide which might be at least postponed by a symptom lessening med, I imagine that they might reconsider.

As for knowing I think the only way would be to possibly see them for a few sessions to get an idea of their personality before mentioning suicide. It bothers me as well that people who want to kill themselves are forced into this situation. I'm not really fond of the risk myself, but I think it's probably the only realistic alternative. I don't see someone in another country giving therapy to someone who wants to kill themselves and allowing them to be fully honest unless they simply don't care which likely isn't a good recipe for treating someone who wants to kill themselves in the first place. As for giving fake information to someone, I have no idea honestly. I'm really sorry to hear about your experience with doctors.

I find it very strange too.

I would love to have a professional therapist I could talk openly to. You have my sympathy. I've had the same desire as you describe.
