Nitrate can turn into Nitrite in the body from some scientific reports.

From this site https://www.thespruceeats.com/sodium-nitrate-and-sodium-nitrite-facts-996129

Interestingly, the sodium nitrate that we consume through fruits, vegetables, and grains is also converted to sodium nitrite by our digestive process. In other words, when we eat fruits, vegetables or grains, our bodies produce sodium nitrite.

woah ok- confusing- so now this is making me think why is Nitrate-not a method on here- though I will just presume it is not as effective, slower, more painful or something-sounds like it worked for this guy thou- IF that is what he took rather than the SN we all know and love (lol)

perhaps. there have been two students who have ctb'd over the past year that went to a university near me and were also on this site. extremely tragic to see students taking their lives, and universities doing absolute shit in bettering mental health initiatives, etc.

They deliberately misreport the chemical name to try and stop copycat suicides.

The media deliberately misreport chemical name to prevent copycat suicides. The correct name is Sodium Nitrite

But there is also a thing called nitrate - guess that's not as likely thou - & yr more than likely correct in the deliberate mis report .
There where quite a few at one Bristol university I believe- where the help- even though it was sought out was not forthcoming- I believe they were preventable too- I don't necessarily think they had reached that 'point of no return ' like myself and some on here - they wanted help ( also like some on here) but just couldn't get it!!

She said it would be "unsafe" to record a verdict of suicide as there was "nothing to suggest Wira took the sodium nitrate with the intention of ending his own life".

I'd like to know what other reason someone would take that quantity of SN

what? its tragic to see students take their life period. UOFT campus downtown in Toronto has had 6 suicides on campus in the past 3 years, yet all they've done is installed suicide barriers from preventing the act of suicide instead of ACTUALLY TRYING DIRECTLY TREAT IT SOMEHOW. Its forced students to literally form mental health grows to raise awareness. You literally cant even talk to a counselor, a fucking greivance counselor about how you feel without some sort of temporarily delays; and even then, it just demotivates an individual to even try. I put an emphasis on the lack of support specifically because thats been one of the issues recently that MH initiatives have protested and voiced out against to be bettered.

The world, as a whole gives very little thought in upgrading the general improvement of mental health awarness and maintenance. Yet, they blame us for our desire to CTB. Irony at it's finest.

Sad enough. As long as we have fuckhead psychiatry pushing crap meds that have been proven ineffective, we will continue to see this slippery slope

I'm not trying to be difficult, but I'm still left wondering when it's not tragic that someone's in so much pain they choose to take their own life. There doesn't seem to be any major community that effectively handles "mental health" (at least in the US). A shame. Anyway, peace.

I think the info on Nitrates and Nitrites in this article is confused in both directions. Sodium Nitr*a*te (NaNO3) breaks down into Sodium Nitr*i*te (NaNO2, aka SN) when it's used as a meat preservative, but that process doesn't generate nearly enough SN to kill a human being. Nitrite oxidizes into Nitrate (the other way around) when it's exposed to air for long periods of time, but the resulting Nitrate is harmless. You really have to take straight SN to ctb, and lots of it. I have a hard time believing this was anything other than a suicide, and even if the guy never stopped by this site, I'm sure the idea passed through here before it got into his head.

Many people find out about Exit and their book. More likely than this website.

I know it mentions "nitrate" rather than "nitrite", but still the delivery by Royal Mail probably means it was planned and intentional.
Take a look:
I actually know that university, there is a huge foreign student programme there. I see it a lot in UK courts where if no note was left behind or the parents/friends say they were not suicidal, the coroner gives a verdict of misadventure rather than suicide.

If you take a look at the members viewing list at times, nearly half the viewers are guests. so there are probably many people who use the information without actually sifning up to the site. With SN it is not that hard to do, especially in the UK where the regimen drugs are otc.

And yet even with student groups speaking out, people just don't give a shit. It's frightening how apathetic our society can be. Society would rather sweep everything under the carpet and pretend all is fine and dandy.
