@FullFat I play trumpet in a concert band and one quarter we played The Planets. SO. MUCH. AWESOMENESS. Very difficult, but epic. Jupiter was my fave.

Glen Gould's recordings of the goldberg variations, first from 1956 i believe which sounds more like jazz in parts. He later reflected that his earlier recordings were too quick in tempo and re recorded the goldberg in the 80s. Both of which are the recordings i would take with me to the other side, assuming they have a charger for my ipod there? There is a wonderful interview with gould at the end of the cd version recorded in the 80s.

Love this thread soon, I can't claim to know a lot about classical music but the sound of a piano brings tears to my eyes immediately, like real buckets.. She starts playing at about 4 minutes

One of Mozart's most hauntingly beautiful slow movements.

..and here is one of those wonderful Mozart pieces which seems to come from a place where there is no gravity or misery.
A child like state of mind, but highly sophisticated at the same time. And always in the middle of all this beauty some dark clouds and melancholy, which can be found more and more in his later and more resignative works. Impossible to describe this music with words. ( esp. from 5.50min. onwards )

Elgar's Cello Concerto. I would not mind dying to this:

Three of my favorite songs of all time - short choral performances. They simply delight me. They make life feel worth living to me, for a few minutes.

I studied at Oxford and I miss those chapels and choral performances.
