Homemade soups can be pretty cheap, just throw whatever you have in them. I make one with chicken, kale, carrots, onion, and white beans. It's really good.

I don't really know exactly. I just know it's a large, thick white block made out of soybeans that's popular in East Asia, especially Japan, and that it's a lot cheaper than meat. But some countries subsidize meat so heavily that it ends up being "cheaper" than tofu, which is stupid because those subsidies pay for over 95% of the price of meat to get to that point. Glad tofu is the cheaper option where I live.
I thought soy was kind of bad for you unless fermented. then again most foods are better for the body slightly fermented

These cheap ramen thingies will eventually kill you - painfully. I can recommend rice. You will hate it after a while but it's cheap and better than the boatloads of MSG you find in ramen.

I just have to congratulate you for the irony. :)

For giving a site devoted to (sanctioned) suicide yet another suicide method, couched in a warning. :)
Because it has at least some taste to it and is cheap I thought I might buy a ton, but after reading a bit it really sounded terrible. Apparently messing with your food can really hurt you badly, and adding (another) chronic illness is probably not what the people here need.

Reliability: 7/10
Pain: 5/10
Speed: 0/10

To be serious though: I did read about organic alternatives that are very similar but without the toxic crap. Unfortunately those are way more expensive so they're not really that useful after all.

Amen! Over the past few years I've discovered sugar, starch, and polyunsaturated vegetable oils make me feel absolutely horrible. My joints ache and old injuries become so enflamed I can't sit, lie down, or stand comfortably. The pain alone is a strong suicidal trigger since it's hard to find reliable, safe pain killers (at least that I know of). You're dead right that food can really hurt you badly. I wish I'd known that when I was just a kid...

Here's to a lack of at least physical pain for you.

Free Food

This being necessary is extremely depressing. And when he said he'd never buy this it hit home hard. We live in an age where a few people pay 400k for wine but your average Joe has to think about food.

This really makes me want to die even more. What is the best possible outcome of life? Fighting everyone and being the same asshole? Why does life have to be constant war against everyone else?

Sorry for the offtopic.

Very, very aptly put! I agree. "What is the best possible outcome of life?" Being a wage slave increasingly for too little money to survive. No thank you. I always wonder why more and more people don't leave life. Then those who own everything and for whom profits are the be all and end all of existence might have to scrub their own toilets, raise their own children, do all the dirty work they look down on others for doing but which makes their lives so comfortable.

Lowly mine workers of the world, revolt!

If you want to eat really cheap, develop an eating disorder and eat nothing at all :sunglasses:

Cup noodles like Shin RamYun are really good. ANYTHING with potatoes is golden. Buy a sack of potatoes and you now have a ton of options for your next meal if you know how to make it. Baked potatoes with butter, french fries, mashed potatoes, your choices are endless. And plus they're very cheap. (It works until you get tired of eating them)

Ever heard of Grey peas? It's a traditional dish from the area where I live.
Here we buy them in their dried form called "Grey peas" but apparently they are Maple beans.
There's different recipes for it online. I learned how to make it from a local pub owner who makes them every weekend for football fans.
She soaks the beans overnight. Always wash them and use fresh water (if you don't want the farts associated with eating beans).
Some people fry up some chopped bacon but it's fine without it too.
Really all it needs is a good bit of basic seasoning and cook till they're tender.
Sure it looks grey, but it tastes great. Cheap and filling. Hope you like it!
