When I did charcoal method at home in April, I was found by my family member so the plan failed. Although I put the coal in a basin made of stainless basin and laid the basin onto the bathtub, it still burnt down the bathtub to serious damage. This was something I didn't want to see and I felt really guilty about it. Unlike many people who do charcoal methods and burn out everything in the bathroom (as I can see from the photographies in the news of people doing charcoal method in mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan etc.), I don't wish my departure will cause any damage to the innocent settings around me. I don't hope there's unnecessary loss around. In this sense, what should I do to avoid the damage? (getting dirty the things around with the black dust of coal is fine, but I don't wish there's something really damaged due to my action). My plan for next time (if I'm going to do the charcoal method) I'll buy a lightweight barbecue grill and put the coal inside. I wonder if this would minimize the damage to settings around. Also another question I have is, will the charcoal method cause pungent scent? I sniffed pungent scent last time but not sure if that came from charcoal or from the acrylic materials due to the damages made to the bathtub.

Unfortunately, I don't think you will be able to guarantee a lack of damage and/or odour from the charcoal method. Fires are usually burned outdoors or in specialised receptacles (hearths and chimnies) for a reason. Anything done indoors and not in one of these places is likely to have after-effects.

This, you can't even smoke a cigarette inside without causing it to soak into everything in the room.

Try this possibly

Some foil tape wouldn't hurt either for the roof as this concentrates it to one spot. I use mine all the time for BBQ.

Wow this device looks cool. What's it called and how can I buy one?

Odor or dirts don't matter... I just don't hope to bring serious damage to and devastate the things around (e.g. mistakenly burning down the bathtub just like what happened to me last time)

It's a charcoal chimney or charcoal starter. Most stores have them in the grill section. Usually you put it on the grill grates because you light a wax covered piece of tinder to get it going... or a terra-cotta pot saucer would work too, it does get pretty hot, but goes for a good while. Maybe run some tests and time it based on some amounts of charcoal for "peace of mind".

Put the charcoal grill on top of a brick. The only damage you'll cause is any surrounding materials that are sensitive to heat. The charcoal gets extremely hot and will burn anything near it. Also, yes it does cause a pungent smell. It will smell like a BBQ.
