This thread was made for Challenge 97 in the Weekly challenge resource thread.
Brief summary – the challenge is to continue the ongoing story with a 90-200 word segment; anyone can contribute, but only once.
Here is the beginning of the story:
The low buzzing of the ceiling lights is briefly accompanied by the howling wind on the street before the doors of the convenience store slide shut again. Sam lets out a sigh of relief as they finally pull down the scarf covering their face. They always hated the cold, more than anything. It's almost as if stopping at a store to buy water was just another excuse to be out of the street.
Sam looks around interior; it's completely desolate at this hour. The sole employee at the counter is engrossed in their phone.
Sam thinks to themselves – "I don't need to spend too much time here; should just get what I wanted and go."
They haven't made much progress in their trek today compared to rest of the week, so they feel the need to hurry if they wish to arrive at their destination.
