Anthony Bourdain, he was the most familiar to me as I have seen most episodes of No Reservations and read his first non-fiction book Kitchen Confidential.

Just watched one episode of his adventures, very nice actually. As for me, it's Jonghyun, a kpop idol, he's just 27 and everything looked bright for him.

Robin Williams fucked me up. I almost killed myself back then too but of course I pussied out.

Then Bennington offed himself and ever since then I find the thought of going through with it much easier. I'm not even a big fan of Linkin Park.

He had a horrible illness called Lewy Body Dementia he kept hidden. He was screwed from both physical and mental directions and had no chance. He was such a kind and lovely person too which makes it hurt more.

I didn't follow Kate Spade while she was alive, but her suicide touched me the most because of how she did it - hung herself with a scarf tied to the doorknob. I tried this and couldn't get it to work, so I envy her. (Well, I didn't use a scarf; I used pajama pants. Maybe that's why it didn't work.)

Takes some strong stuff to go through with a suicide like that unless she put something slippy on the floor that didn't enable her to stand up ? Partial suspension really amazes me as there's every chance to stop it

Chester bennington ... Cause i listened to his music alot. And yeah robin williams cause he seemed like the most happy/caring person in the world. Wouldn't say these had an impact on me. These are just the only suicides where i gave some thought to. The rest i couldn't care less for.

I think some meds (dont know which) will help go through with it. Maybe she used a really tough, not too stretchy scarf.

Hanging suicides (David Foster Wallace, Ian Curtis, Robin Williams, Chester Bennington, Chris Cornell, etc.) are on my mind often. They give me hope that I might succeed too.

This is what I'm going to do. Except, I'm not sure how it's done exactly. Are you tying the scarf to the doorknob on your side and leaning away from it or on the other side and throwing it over the top of the door?

What I did was tie the pajama pants to the doorknob on my side of the door and lean away. I didn't make a knot, though. That might be my problem. With a scarf it would be easier to make a knot.

My top ones I think of are Pete Ham and Tom Evans of Badfinger, Robin Williams (I see he's quite a popular one in this thread, I can see why as I also liked him very much, at least, the persona he presented publicly, didn't know that about him having that specific dementia), and hm, Layne Staley (though was that an intentional suicide?), Kurt Cobain, hard to pick favorites. There's always something so beautiful despite the tragedy, maybe someone could better articulate what I am trying to explain.

Bourdain's CTB really caught me by surprise. I have been watching his shows for the last decade or so, and was just talking about him to a friend weeks ago. And it happened during this period where I am having the strongest feelings of you know what myself. It got me thinking, could this all be just a coincidence, or is it a sign.

I envy everyone I hear of who successfully committed suicide. I don't follow or "know" many celebrities. But I'd laughed a lot to Williams and he inspired me to go to medical school (Patch Adams). His character was the antithesis of modern medicine which harbors one of the highest professional suicide rates, and not just due to the access to effective drugs. And one of his lines from What Dreams May Come haunts me more than any other I've ever heard in films and lies at the core of my own ideations--the line in which he tells a surprised angel he'd rather be in hell with his broken ex-wife than in heaven without her.

Kurt Cobain's suicide is a distant second since I used to live near his old Seattle home and thought every time I drove by if he could do it I should be able to.

Not sure tbh. I only know he did it with a washing line. It seems like partial suspension is the way to go when it comes to celebrity hanging suicides.

I'm usually neutral to that kind of news. I don't reserve preferential treatment to celebrities, there are a lot of other "common" people who are struggling too

I was really into Soundgarden and Audioslave as a teen and still have their songs on my playlists/ipod to this day. Everyone I knew thought Soundgarden "sucked ass" and Audioslave was Cornell "ruining Rage," so I always felt a little protective? defensive? for him. It felt like a big win when he did the theme for one of the best 007 movies. It's like it's own form of immortality, having your voice in one of the most beloved entries of a film franchise that runs TV marathons every holiday. I should go watch Casino Royale real quick :v

Cornell's suicide is one that still sits in my mind and I'm not typically affected by celebrity passings. Whenever I pass by a dead person's face I tend to think, "That dude is dead!" and move on. With Chris Cornell, I always pause and think about his career and contribution to my youth.

Ghostbusters 1 & 2 were some of my favorite movies.

Unfortunately, one of the child actors who played baby Oscar in Ghostbusters 2 committed suicide via hanging in 2017. His name was Henry John Deutschendorf II.
