Do you think some people who CTB actually showed bipolar or bpd traits (I know they are different and impact people to different degrees, but I'm 'diagnosed' with both)? I was initially thinking about celebrities but it most likely applies to the general population too, especially as a lot of people who present with either condition are first 'diagnosed' with depression. Psychiatry knows very little, and tries to put labels around a group of symptoms, but often do not see the whole picture.

Many people are shocked when someone takes their own life, especially if it's 'unexpectedly'. Smiling faces are shown, along with messages about how they hid their depression. While that may be the case, I can't help but wonder if it was not so unipolar. For me, the whiplash of going from extreme highs to despairing lows affects me more greatly than when things don't seem great. Idk though

Isn't suicide in those with borderline personality disorder very rare and it tends to be gestures or am I assuming? I read some scientific papers on it but wanted to ask anyways.

The opposite. Around 1/10 of those diagnosed are successful and something like 75% have attempted. Statistically much higher than those diagnosed with depression and a higher mortality rate than many physical illnesses

I have both depression and bipolar disorder!
I think many celebrities who ctb suffered from them too.
Look at it this way: they had to pretend to be happy 24/7 so that their fans loved them and pretending is a synonym of bipolar disorder and depression.

For example, when I work, I always pretend to be happy and there comes a moment in which I become happy for real. However, I might go home or somewhere else and get depressed instantly because of my bipolarity and depression.

I bet much worse things than this happen to celebrities. Just imagine singing in front of thousands of people putting a "happy face". They might love singing but pretending to be so joyful might end up only making them more depressed, especially if they're bipolar.

I wonder how many people who get "diagnosed" with BPD are actually just traumatized. Every person I've met with BPD seems to have some significant traumatic events on their past.

Typing on mobile so I wasn't as clear as usually am. Most times though in regards to OP, the signs are there but are often missed. Usually people brush things off little things someone does or says. At least that is how I was with my mother or cousin before they committed suicide. Really nice thread

I was diagnosed with bipolar and borderline at an early age but I do not exactly trust in psychology. Perhaps that is just my paranoia and distrust.
thank you!
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6632023/ just one paper, but there's lots of literature out there

Yeah there appears to be a really strong link, especially with childhood trauma. The coping mechanisms that come out of dealing with such incidences explain a lot of the presenting traits

I also don't trust my diagnoses, nor the mental health care providers I've worked with, but I am very paranoid as an individual, which is common with bpd
