Hello people, do you think I can get pure SN from a supermarket or a mall? Or it won't be pure

I very much doubt it- not now anyway. I believe at one time, people could purchase it off of Amazon. It may have even been at Walmart if I recall but they've gotten wise to what people were buying it for and it seems like it's a lot more restricted now. I imagine most of the stuff individuals can easily purchase would be a mix.

Maybe (a huge maybe) if one were to breach the deli area of a supermarket they'd find SN. There are still some places in the US who sell it, but I'm finding most don't or won't deliver to a domestic address, has to be a business address. Now, if someone had a friend with a deli…

SN restrictions are a serious pain in the ass.

I was able to order SN on Amazon prior to the lawsuits which I'm guessing prompted the ban. I've not opened it - it remains factory sealed.

Banning SN won't stop people from finding other ways.

What I'm seeing currently on Amazon (US) is Sodium Nitrite maximum purity 6.25%

If I remember correctly, the lawsuits argued, among other things, there was no need to sell SN at such pure levels.

maybe this is a stupid idea but wouldnt it just be possible to take low purity and then raise the purity? maybe i dont know enough about chemistry but it SOUNDS like something doable

Had a similar thought - if one were to buy multiple bags of SN (the SN I was looking at a bit ago was bagged, not bottled)….

I sadly don't think it would work based on consumption. One would need to drink a LOT of 6.25%.

I'm not an expert on this at all.

But if someone were to take out the impurities and create a higher concentration, surely that's possible? I'm going to try to look into this. Been a while since I've known anything about chemistry

That's where I get fouled up - extracting the SN or extracting the impurities. Either way, I believe it's possible. Worth looking into.

I should've paid more attention in Chemistry, that's for sure.
