So, I have an appointment scheduled tomorrow (that I waited 4+ months for;-;) with a new psychiatrist. I just got around to googling her name and thats when I stumbled upon a tumblr page serving as a support group for people who went through abuse at a youth institution she worked at 10 years ago. People said that as a therapist she was incredibly dismissive and abusive. Hell, even on google her most recent reviews are very low and all reiterate the same notion. I'm a little fearful to go now but I'm also running out of resources. What should I do?

Holy crap! I'm sorry to hear that, I have a therapist currently that is the farthest from being on my side as one can be and had a horrific dr before that. It's up to you to go to the appointment but try to remain impartial to her recommendations regarding treatment and keep an open mind. Can a friend or family member accompany you to your appointment? The dr will most likely be on good behaviour if they see a third party involved.
peace/hugs❤️

Seems like all you can really do is go to the appointment and do your best with her. Keep your guard up.

Keep in mind that people usually go online to post bad reviews more often than good ones. That said, keep your guard up initially while you 'test the waters' so to speak

I decided not to go. I feel a bit guilty. I can already hear the toxic people saying "you're not trying hard enough!" Whatever. Everyone deserves access to safety, care, respect, and dignity no matter how vulnerable they are.

Don't feel guilty! You're absolutely correct. Trust your gut instinct.

My instinct when I know some one is abusive is to stay well away. If you feel at all undermined by this new psychiatrist I would urge you to try to get another one. There are some people out there that think that all mentally ill people need is a good kick up the arse! Sadly some of them end up in the psychiatry profession. Abusive people should never have that kind of access to vulnerable people or any people for that matter!

@cowbain, what are your options now? Can you ask for an appointment with a different doctor?
