  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

I've been wondering if anyone has any good recommendations on books about suicide. I'm not picky. They can be non fiction, either methods or even just the study of psychology behind it/ history of it, etc.

Fictional books on suicide or suicidal main characters would be nice too. I'd prefer ones that don't have unrealistic, out of nowhere happy endings, but it's fine if they end on a positive note so long as it doesn't feel fake or forced.

I've already read:

Nonfiction: Final Exit / PPH / Suicide and attempted suicide

Fiction (... admittedly mostly YA novels a billion years ago) 13 Reasons :/, by the time you read this, i'll be dead / the program / no longer human

Oh! also curious about movies, shows / anime, or even video games! I've already seen 'My suicide,' and 'Wristcutters,' and I've played 'the static speaks my name.'

ive read some fiction books with the themes of suicide, depression and self harm. the books i can recommend are : girl in pieces, suicide notes, more happy then not and it's kind of a funny story. as for film, i've only seen all the bright places, that was a good one too. it's based off the book, but i haven't read that one!

These are the ones that are on top of my head rn.

1) Of Suicide - David Hume (collection of essays. I haven't finished the rest yet but in the first one he criticizes the belief that suicide is a transgression against god

2) Notes on suicide by Simon Critchley (short essay. Not the best in my opinion. But he did briefly go through all the common arguments against/for suicide on the basis of rights and duties which I found interesting because I was not familiar with any literature on suicide)

3) The Bell Jar, My Year of Rest and Relaxation, Suicide by Édouard Levé, All the bright places (This is YA novel. Not sure it's good bc I skimmed through it years ago).

Also maybe The Bridge and Right to Die documentary? I haven't watched them but a friend did.
