They're not tbf, the regular scammers are usually much better than this, and there have probably been a few media types with false accounts you've engaged with unwittingly over recent months.

I'm sorry if this sounds rude but I feel that people here are so gullible they automatically believe and trust what people say. I hate thinking I'm pushing any suicidal person away from here but I've become so paranoid now because of this that I wouldn't trust any new members whatsoever. Like now I can't help but think when a new account talks about their life story or whatever is going on that's making feel suicidal and gives a long thread about it all that it makes people trust them more. I'm probably not making any fucking sense but I feel like these people are using the kindness this site shows and are manipulating us.

I know how you feel, but looking at your posts previously you seem a good genuine person. I intend to be myself as always, I never encourage ctb but believe people have a right to self determination.

All I would say to anyone is please try and get help if they haven't or at least if they have give it one more go

We should definitely be careful for obvious reasons, I'm gonna agree to that. It will take a while until the heat is gone. But we should also try to avoid normalizing a culture in this community that's hostile towards new members. I know that can happen very quickly. Sometimes people ask stupid questions and sometimes their story is weird but that doesn't always mean they follow shady intentions. And if you stumble upon questionable threads or members that behave shady it's better to report them to us instead of confronting them yourself. I just wanted to leave that here because the dynamic that's described in this thread between established and new members has existed in the past when we were in the spotlight of the media. And the current situation is definitely uncomfortable to say the least.

My experience has always been kind of like this, l understand it entirely. There's a weird dynamic on this forum which is different from other places, one can quite easily ingratiate themselves with little fuss, drop the right empathetic noises in appropriate places, do the love bombing, hugs emojis aplenty - in fact, folk who don't subscribe to this queasiness are often condemned for callousness, as if the concept of the "safe haven" is brought into disrepute not by the phoneys, but by those who observe the phoniness about the place.

As a rule of thumb if someone is trying very hard to "fit in", forming the little cliques, making gushing feelgood noises, I've always raised my guard, and I've been proven right too many times (like, a hundred percent of the time) for that guard to substantially drop. Other users of this forum are perhaps less attuned to this, many people come to this place in a desperate and, by definition, vulnerable state too, and it's correct imo that those of us who are *real* have a healthy degree of cynicism right now if the integrity of this forum is to remain.

EDIT : just seen the Rain post above and will add here that the degree of cynicism required to maintain vigilance should be kept to a healthy level, a scattergunned hostility to new members would definitely not be helpful either.

I agree with everything you said. I'm not trying to be hostile but we do need to keep our guard up. I guarantee some new members are here to sabotage and undermine this site in whatever they can. Seeing Kelli's Twitter and how she said something along the lines that 'this is a year in the making' about the article and the thought about her and her goons made numerous accounts here is indescribably fucked up. And now, now it's only going to get worse because the site is in the spotlight and we'll be getting even more scammers and liars.
