Best way to hang?

Recently tried to hang myself with a cable but it didn't really work/the cable ripped. I don't really have an anchor point in my room. I have a shelf that goes up to my waist and I tied the cable around the handles and then tried to lay down and hang myself with my own weight, but it didn't work.

Can someone tell me whats the best way to hang when I don't have an anchor point and how I can make sure the damn thing doesn't rip. If you know any threads that discuss it here please show me, I can't really find anything.
