I like to think we already survived the scariest transition between worlds during our birth. Imagine the quiet, cozy uterine home you spent months in suddenly contracting for hours on end, trying to force you out. Hours of this terrifying experience pass and eventually a pair of giant hands grab your body and pull you out into some brightly lit, noisy room inundating you with sensory overload. You gasp air for the first time and it burns your little lungs so much, you start crying. "What kind of hellish dimension is this?" your little brain wonders as you are taken against your will into a life of unknown horrors.

Idk…based on all the NDE stories I've read, dying seems infinitely more peaceful than what we've already survived lol.

I can't remember being born so dying is definitely scarier.

Actually, that must be why babies cry when they're born; apparently, they know what awaits them, haha

The lack of brain development in newborns renders the horror almost nil, they have no ability to really think about it. Consciousness especially at the level developed humans are is the problem and they hardly have any of it.

This is the most perfect explanation of birth I have ever heard/seen. It's from a TV show called Euphoria- it's a monologue from the main character, Rue, who is a high school student plagued with various mental health issues and is a drug addict. Honestly, despite major trigger warnings all around- I highly recommend it. Some of the best descriptions of mental illness I have ever seen represented in media I've seen so in it.

This is the opening scene to the show and it's Rue monologuing about being born and then shoved into the miserable world. I recommend at least watching this clip. Oh the season 1 episode "The Trials and Tribulations of Trying to Pee While Depressed.

If you can deal with the subject matter and the many many triggers, I highly recommend the show.

I mean, nobody can remember their birth by design, so I don't think that's true. You're imagining what being born feels like from a movie.

I love Euphoria so much. Rue is one of the most relatable characters in media for me personally.

I dont think babies r super aware of being born. I dont think their brains are developed to fully concieve every second of whats going on . Maybe its similar to how animals react to stuff. They feel some thing for one moment then mayb forget

I mean, our nerves, nervous system, and basic biology- like any other mammal being born works, but our brains are definitely not developed nearly to the point to have memory or higher functions other than the basics of breathing and other body functions necessary to survive outside the womb. Probably could have said that better, but I hope it makes sense. Being born probably is a terrible experience, but just our body registers it. Or if the brain does- it does at the time and then it's over with. No consciousness or memory or anything. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Funny enough I haven't seen Euphoria, but now I have to watch lol.

You're likely right. My earliest memories of self-awareness (wondering about my existence) was about 2.5-3 years old. I do have even earlier memories from baby cribs and baby walkers, but they're fuzzy and more visual than conscious thought focused. But babies do experience confusion, discomfort and sensory overload made worse by not having the cognitive ability to understand anything.

What's horrifying about coming into existence is you can never really escape it. You can shorten your existence but where death is, we are not. This life is your world. If it sucks, it sucks, and you'll never be around to feel relief from it.

I don't care to feel relief, i just want the suffering to stop. Non existence=no suffering.
