Hi all

Can someone please tell me, is death guaranteed jumping from the highest point at Beachy head in the UK.

I am in the UK a few hundred miles away but i do have a car so i am considering this method.

Also one more question,

If someone dies from jumping form this height, is the body not viewable after death by family members because of the injuries?

Any info on this would be greatly received

Thanks all.

If you are lucky enough to get to the edge to do it, death is pretty much certain, but the samaritans etc all are present up there, making it harder to get to the edge, I think if you timed it right there would be no issues. (ie early hours, dark etc!)

When it comes to viewing bodies, this is an interesting question, I always assumed a body would need to be formally identified, but if there isn't much left do they just go on DNA records?

There are ways hypothetically to have a few minutes up there without the Samaritans coming over, like taking a camera etc

I did a lot of research on beachy head and most that jumped died on impact or in the hospital later, from what I read (although the news might not cover everything.)

I don't know about viewing the body, sorry. Do you think you could overcome the SI and do it?

The highest point at Beachy Head is about 500ft. So no chance of surviving from that height. It's not the falling that kills you it's the sudden stopping. Your internal organs would be severely damaged, and obviously major trauma to your bones etc.
I went to the highest point and went right to the edge to take a photo. Nobody ever asked what I was doing or tried to stop me. It's certainly a long way down and onto a hard rocky beach.

The Samaritans patrol the area but it's not 24\7. I've been on walks around Beachy head without seeing anyone before. If I wanted to jump from the famous spot there would have been nobody to stop me and access is easy. Not my preferred method personally but it would definitely get the job done
Also if anyone wants to go for a walk around Beachy head and talk things through let me know. It's a beautiful place, sometimes I think it would be nice to talk to people who are also struggling with life

Your body will be fucked up from jumping. You will not be viewable. They can cover some cuts and bruises but a jump/brutal method where you are terribly disfigured? No.

It's where I plan to go as well when the time is right and courage permitting. It'd be a beautiful area to spend final moments before departure. As has been said, it'd be certain from the right point, by the lighthouse I think to the right of it when looking out from the cliffs. I also think it'd be quite easy to avoid those patrolling on the lookout, I'm certain I could do it no matter what in that regard, it'd just be overcoming the SI for me when there.

This is the view straight down from near the lighthouse. You can see the shadow of the lighthouse towards the top left of the photo.

Great picture. Any ideas on the best place regarding height/sheer fall/hard landing?

Kudos for getting this picture! What did it feel like? Inviting?! I just wonder if you'd bounce off the white cliffs towards the bottom and how that might affect things, speed-wise? I have been overthinking Beachy Head a lot though tbf.

I think it's to the right of the lighthouse when looking out towards it - that seems to be the best combination of height and a sheer fall. I watched an old documentary about Beachy Head a while ago which said the majority of people had jumped from there and no-one survives that. I also think it's a beautiful place, something seems fitting about looking out to the lighthouse beforehand.

I've thought about it a lot as well for a long time now and though not any kind of expert don't think it'd be possible to survive jumping from there.

No "samaritans" will be able to make scrambled eggs of your brain back into functional biological computer called "brain".

Survival instincts kick in big time for most. A lot of people make the trip to Beachy but most just sit by the edge for a while before turning back around or getting picked up by someone. Not saying you couldn't do it, just saying there's no shame in not jumping and the Samaritans on the cliffs are actually pretty good to talk to, if you want to talk things through :)

I wasn't really scared. The photo does not do it justice to how far down it is. I think I calculated the impact speed my be over 100mph. The cliff top over hangs the rest of the cliff. So I think the impact spot would be in the green part at the base. You are definitely not going to survive that fall.

Even looking at the photograph you took is mesmerising, thinking of all those who've departed there and looked out before going. I'd like to think I know I could do it but won't know for certain until it happens I think.

I like this photograph I came across a while ago too

I live very close to this bridge and every time I pass it I wonder what it would be like to jump from it even though jumping wouldn't be my preferred choice to CTB. I think only 1 person has ever survived jumping from it.

The only reason I wouldn't jump from there is all my friends and family would see the bridge all the time and it might trouble them a lot. Would be a constant reminder.
