Be careful using firearms

More frequently than you think a person commuting suicide in an adjacent apartment has the bullet pass through them and the through the wall into an innocent person. Hollow points or be sure of the bullet trajectory. While I plan to take my life I don't want to hurt others. I'm worried bc of my weak hands the 9mm won't land where I want. How can I reduce kickback and get the best angle. Wish I had a 22. I can't drive btw.

Guns just sound terrifying in general. I think that if I had access to one, I would never be able to go through with it as I would be worried about it going wrong in some way. Thank you for sharing the information. No one should have to use such violent methods in the first place, we all deserve the option of a peaceful exit.

No you don't, or maybe a better way to say it is, you shouldn't. Sure, a .22 has less power and is less likely to go through a wall an injure someone else. But, it is less likely to be fatal to you, too. Even that 9mm could be a problem (for success). The only foolproof way with a firearm is a shotgun, IMO, with the barrel placed right in your mouth.

This is my concern too. I don't want to screw over responsible gun owners and I certainly don't want to give fodder to those pushing their evil feudalism agenda to take away anyone's right to defend themselves

you're not using a 30mm drone or an anti-material 50 cal military rifle, so you don't need to worry about bullets going through walls.

if you watch actual videos of people shooting at walls with pistols, you're gonna see that it just leaves a mark on the wall.

spoiler: they tested and not even a 5.56 rifle caliber went throught the wall. let alone a 9mm or 40 caliber which are way weaker.

and by the way, a 22 cal suicide attempt has a high risk of failure and can even leave you with permanent damage.

I can tell you with certainty a firearm of virtually every caliber will go through a drywall (Sheetrock/gypsum-board) wall. A masonry wall is another story, but drywall doesn't stand a chance.

No one should have to use such violent methods in the first place, we all deserve the option of a peaceful exit.

I couldn't agree more with a non violent method being a human right, however I do believe a firearm can be a peaceful method. A self inflected GSW to the head has one of the highest chances of success when done properly. The brain is also incapable of feeling pain.

usually houses that have drywalls on some spots, also have normal concrete walls on other spots, @Jrmull1993. the person can simply select strategically the place of their suicide.

I believe there may be a lot of reasons to not use a firearm to CTB, but the danger of hurting other people usually is not one of them.

edit: there's always the classic video of Budd Dwyer's live suicide to illustrate too.

he used a 357 caliber, which for those who don't know, is way more powerful than 9mm caliber.

although we can't see it very clearly, it appears that the bullet barely got through his head, it'd never be able to go through a wall after losing power from going through a guy's head.

To anyone considering using firearms, do your research before trying and read a lot of the good points above in this thread, as well as other threads about the method. Consider what type of firearm to use, position, location, and so on after gaining more knowledge. Don't rush it.
