Idk if non UK people can read that, but basically this guy killed himself, I think he was on SS, although the article doesn't say the name of the site its description seems to match up. The mum is obviously sad and mourning, and pissed off at this site for "not talking him out of it" or whatever, idk what my point is really, just another instance of SS in the news I guess.

The black web
:pfff: :pfff: :pfff: :pfff: :pfff: :pfff:

(please do not point out that they don't care or they can't see past their nose, I know)
The article in general, honestly I'm mind boggled. If I found someone that committed suicide my first thought would be 'what drove you to this' not 'take the website down'. I mean if we were here and someone thought they were logging on to an innocent site (come on it has suicide in the title, you know why they're here. Point is its obvious) and we were doing what you guys (comments I've seen on ss) have said they're doing on gore.com or whatever its called then yeah please shut us down. But hugs?? Come on we clearly aren't the ones at fault here, it started long before us.

Edit: also I loved their example of "nearly encouraging"
(yes I know I'm not word for word but you get the idea)
Were sorry life has brought you to this point. Good luck on your journey
The second sentence meh it's getting close to the line. However the first sentence, really?

again mothers trying to blame strangers with the same belief that it's the strangers' responsibility to dissuade someone from committing suicide:
"Some of the messages were from people asking Luke how he was feeling and if they could help him, but no-one ever really talked you out of it."
Although it's sad, these mothers have to realize that the responsibility for their sons' depression or health problems should not be given to people that are not involved with the causes.
If he was a vulnerable people, how comes that he was living alone, away from his parents, without a proper assistance? Why doesn't she try to understand what he has gone through, before landing on a website that is explicitly talking about suicide?
Police and civil courts do not even raise a finger to help people that have been victims of sexual abuses or domestic violence. First let's start to enforce those cases. Those are the real vulnerable victims of society and no one makes a case about them

Also can someone show me where they proved we have under 18 here?

'Checks aren't thorough enough'

Julia said her son signed up to the forum on 9 January, the month before his death.
She said the website had a disclaimer stating it was only accessible for people aged over 18 and provided a number for a Samaritans helpline but "the checks aren't thorough enough".
If you have no proof that there's people under 18 then how can you say the checks aren't thorough?

I don't blame parents for asking "why?" and coming to easy answers. They are grieving. They are not thinking rationally. There's probably been some messed up stuff going on behind the scenes. Maybe they can't live with guilt and need to project it

It's the circus that builds up around them, that has no interest in understanding us, that I find malign. Doxxing people on Twitter, making up horrible lies

My sister hates this website and believes most of us are trolls and we are all encouraging each other to kill ourselves for our own diabolical pleasure. I've given up talking to her about it.

Easy escape for her. Her child died under her watch but she'll never accept responsibility for it. SS will be her scapegoat, no accountability on her part. She seems like a lovely person.

Holy fuck what a self absorbed bitch. She only talks about herself and not a word about her son's suffering. Fucking typical.

100% this woman was a negligent mother, either abusive or neglectful.

Gotta love how they put his childhood picture in a clear attempt to equate him as a little boy in the eyes of the reader.

He was an adult and made his decision as an adult, this place has no children and mods are very clear about minors being not welcome here.

I agree with you. It's clear that a parent at some point will blame the circumstances that brought their child to commit suicide (but, in the same way, they should blame how he was bullied, or neglected). But it's not ok that a website or a newspaper publishes such things as blaming an online forum for not trying hard enough to dissuade him from committing the act; that's poor journalism. It's like the sarcastic comic stripe of the parent blaming the teacher because the son has bad marks.

I read the article. He was having a hard time since he was 12 years old. Sounds like he had enough.

This website provides valuable information to desperate people. Information on effective methods so they do not have to suffer botched attempts that leave them crippled.

These angry people need to stay in their own lane. These pro lifers would rather have their kids become crippled from the neck down from botched attempts than to "lose them" to suicide. That is how selfish these fuckers are. Only care about themselves.

I understand the pain of the mother and how she is tricked into finding exterior scapegoats, i don't blame her. It's the ones in the press and politics who use her as a pawn that i despise. These things should be discussed non emotionally. There is a need for freedom and a need for society to behave rationally in relation to this, So much of the press doesn't do that.

It's true..... if you read the original story then it reads completely different:

Julia admitted that she felt very conflicted by the existence of the site when it came to the death of her son.

She said: "I don't want my son to have committed suicide but I'm glad that he found a peaceful way and he got to talk to other people that are going through certain issues.

It's seriously like night and day, the bbc article is just plain garbage and paints a completely different picture. It's actually hard to believe that they are both the same story.

That's 99% of the mothers and families who are against SS literally, they think they were perfect friends/family for the one that died.

Can we stop blaming the mother with such harsh words? you don't know the full story, so stop speculating about how bad she may or may not have been. Seriously, nothing makes us look like a suicide cult like this behavior.

Blaming a grieving mother with something so heinous s is just so sad. Have some empathy.

The guy was autistic, and if you know anything about autism, you'll know how unbelievably hard it is for people with this condition to exist in this society. The statistics are appalling as well, with over 3 to 10 times more suicides in autistic people and an unbelievable amount of co-existing mental and physical conditions even in high functioning people. There's very little any parent can do about it.

Some people here should read the original article and not the garbage bbc one before making any judgement. The fact that the mother was relieved when she read that at least her son died in a peaceful way and understood that not all people die by suicide in here should be enough to tell you that she is not the monster some people think she is.

It seems to me that people who blame this site or other pro-choice outlets for "abetting" suicide secretly know that there's some appeal to it. They treat it as some kind of forbidden fruit whose temptations one can fall victim to, if not careful, like a drug or something. If they oppose suicide so much, then they should be more confused than anything else, but instead they seem mostly hateful about it, treating it like a kind of crime.

Oh my, this guy was from Ireland(my country), I wonder if I spoke to him on here because I think I've talked to most Irish people on this site at some point... Rest In Peace

But ugh yeah I hate these fucking articles, again it's people just wanting to find that one thing to blame for their family members' ctb instead of actually questioning/acknowledging the real reasons someone was led to that point in life where they feel they have no other option. I'd like to think when I ctb the people who know me won't be so naive to think some website is to blame... especially since they are aware of the extent of my suffering and everything I've had to endure throughout my life

Wow, it is completely different. I guess someone at the BBC must have an agenda.
I think that's the BBC in general..... they're trying to be "woke" but don't realise that they're just virtue signalling (which is why a lot of people hate having to pay the TV licence fee to them)

Not just BBC, but mainstream media in general. People usually don't think about it until they find themselves on the receiving end. If they are so full of shit when wokeness and virtue signalling is in question, imagine how reliable they are when reporting about real important stuff like wars.
