It seems to me that there may be significant links between the atheist, vegan, and right-to-die communities. A common focus of all three of these communities is suffering, framed as a problem in the world, so I think it's what might (at least in part) explain the overlap. I would be curious to know, how many of you are atheist and/or vegan?

That's another community which seems to have strong ties, and again a big focus of theirs is suffering. I'm personally not an anti-natalist but I do sympathise heavily with the points they make.

I'm an ex-Christian and ex-atheist and now I am... I don't know what to call it, it's complicated, but I find my own ways and beliefs. I'm not a vegan, I'm a vegetarian.

Can't handle too much fiber. Don't wanna eat crappy refined carbs because they aren't satiating & I hate white bread, rice, pasta & potatoes. Don't wanna get fat either.

I think the significant link between them is because they are all social/political issues based upon science and morality, especially the recognition of the right to bodily autonomy which is the fundamental issue at the heart of both the right to die movement and veganism

I am not vegan, but I am an atheist. I do not eat much meat though as I do not like the taste and it is an unpleasant thought to think the animal was once alive.

I like some types of vegan meat but I'd never use it to fully substitute my meat intake. Food just doesn't taste quite the same if nothing died to sustain my gluttony.

I also consider myself an agnostic over an atheist. Sure not all atheists have a superiority complex but I guarantee that if I was sure enough about the entire state of everything to call myself an atheist, then I would have definitely have one. I already watch Rick and Morty so I'm in too deep.

atheist, vegan, right-to-die and antinatalist:)
i really hate religion, imo its responsible for much inequality (lgbt) and suffering, on top i think many religions are trying to prevent abortion which is just stupid and unnecessary from an antinatalist standpoint..
i agree that the core of these ideologies are about reducing suffering and simplified, to make things just more right/better.. antinatalism and veganism are the solution for the biggest threads we have and also the ethical ones like suffering..
many atheists/v/rtd peeps seem to be more open minded and question the status quo, this might also cause some people to reconsider/become vegan,.. on top i could imagine them to be more sensitive to suffering, maybe they do (/did)suffer a lot as well and understand that the right to die should be a fundamental right

Have been vegetarian for 20 years. Have also studied Eastern philosophy for a long time; definitely not a fan of fundamentalist Christianity. Love kids but painfully agree with the thrust of the anti-natalist arguments. I suppose once again I'm in a no-man's-land.

You do realize it's humans who are the ones breeding animals into existence in the first place in order to exploit and kill them for food, clothing, entertainment, vivisection etc., right?!😑

Veganism isn't about healthy eating, people often think veganism and plant based eating are the same thing, and while vegans do eat plant based, veganism itself is a socio-political movement which advocates for justice for all and the abolition of all forms of animal exploitation. If you look into the history of veganism, it was actually founded in 1944 towards the end of world war 2 and was viewed as being a part of the anti-war movement by its original founders

Not to be the annoying vegan, but those animals only exist because humans are breeding tons of them into existence, thereby only bringing more suffering into this world.

Probably no need to clarify this, but vegan & atheist here :ahhha:

Most farmed animals wouldn't survive in the wild, so many human-bred species would probably just go extinct. And even the ones that might survive would breed to a much lower extent than is forcibly brought upon them right now in the meat and dairy industries. I do get your point that from an antinatalist perspective all breeding is wrong, but by not being vegan you're only supporting more breeding to take place. It's choosing between the lesser of two evils, I suppose.

I do agree with your point. I might consider veganism for this reason. But for now, i don't think it would change anything. They won't stop the meat industry because it's profitable, and probably never will.

I get it, and just to be clear I never meant to judge you or push you into changing your lifestyle or anything. And you're right, the meat industry will (unfortunately) continue as it is for a long time, even if it's not profitable (which it currently isn't in the EU, the only reason they're surviving is because of the ridiculous subsidies they receive). It frustrates the hell out of me, it's actually one of the things that have confirmed my negative view of the world.

Yes, but we were talking about veganism, and 99.9% of the animals exploited and killed by humans are the ones which have been bred into existence by humans. So by not being vegan you are contributing to more animals being unnecessarily bred into existence and suffering.
You do realize that animals in the wild still breed, right?

Atheist, efilist and omnivore. Not vegan for the same reason I don't vote, it's ineffectual. The other stances are just my guesses (atheism) and opinions (efilism) on things; with veganism I'd have to actually put work in--for no observable effect.

Interesting thoughts. Ive always believed that animals have the right to be loved and treated with dignity. And yet my vegan diet was a choice, in part from previous partner who pursued me. I never went back to my partner and i never went back to eating meat. Actually, the thought makes me want to vomit😥
