This has happened a dozen times before. I visit my sister s home, while talking to my brother in law I happen to ask stupid question. He makes some rude or sarcastic comments on me. My sister gets angry cause I am insulting myself. I try avoiding going to my sister s home for the same reason but she keeps insisting that I come .
Something similar has happened today and I hate myself for being so stupid and dumb.

I've definitely gone through this but the shittier thing (in my view) is people who try to make you feel stupid. I think it's worse to be a malicious bully rather than to say something clumsy. So, while it's hurtful, it reveals how dispassionate they are.

What kinds of questions are you asking? Many people will tell you a question is stupid if they do not like the question (or you) to get you to stop talking. Sound more like you have some toxic relatives.

They had their gas stove given to Repair as its glass broke and since they were going out I was to receive it today . I asked my brother in law what all I had to check . He said that I have to check whether the gas is working , I further asked if I had to check anything regarding the glass to which he replied, what else is there to check ? The glass will be replaced by those people. He said that in a rude way which hurt me.

These are legitimate questions. If something is broken and you are not an expert repair person, you need to know what to do. Even if you do know, it is better to double check. Your in-law is an asshole. 🫂

IMHO that can really be a rude answer! You were trying to make sure things work out fine for them! There can always be scratches on the stove due to delivery, or maybe there was a drawer inside which got lost during transport etc. Once a window was exchanged on my car but they left shattered pieces of the glass in the respective door, so now those pieces make sounds everytime I open it. So one should always check when things come back from repair!

I think you were simply thoughtful to ask! I often ask about these kinds of problems as well, but sometimes people say I overthink and then I feel dumb and decide not to ever ask anything again. Which hopefully I won't do!

He's an ass. I have a bil like that and my sister is always asking me to come over. Last time he said shit was the last time I saw them, prob 8 years ago. If you want to continue to see your sister prob explain the interaction to her? She may get him straightened out.

She heard the interaction. She was angry on me as to why I asked that question.

If it were me id not be around them much anymore. Sounds like a set up where you're getting grief and no help, imo. My sister did this kind of thing.
