I want everyone to show me some of their favourite art if you don't mind! Personally I am into them harsh contrasts and bright colours.

Hilma af Klint

I saw the documentary last year... I was really into it .
I've always loved that old style geometric abstract stuff and Hilma was news to me .
The doco I watched was here :
I feel I should give it a "woo woo " warning for those supernaturally uninclined ... she was a Theosophist and indulged in seances ... Neither here nor there , as far as it goes , for me , but it used to urk me a bit ( no offence if thats your thing ).
She had a whole intense unseen world (as in the film's title )science abstraction thing going on which I like. Trying to represent something unseeable , modeling unseen nature ...

Definitely Painted by a Madman.

Good old Munch !

This is one of those "ye olde" paintings that are "not nice".
I remember my Dad saying , years ago , "Why would you paint that ?"

So , yeah , like , because it's really shitty and you feel bad ....

Not celebrating the bad vibes ... just loved that he (spoiler of the article to follow ) wrote that on one of them himself . What a dude.

It has never ever inferred "mental illness " for me .

It's just "the way it is" ... I think I just accepted it as a normal horror.
Like a sort of real portrait .
Reality .

Anyway ... I hope you can have as much time as possible where this IS NOT real and normal ... but if you are enduring this kind of thing - you are not alone , and I personally do NOT think you are mad .
Just bloody realistic , in this world .

Have a great day if you can .

Edward Hopper: Blue Night (1914)
I am not a fan of Hopper's work, but I am greatly drawn to this painting (excuse the pun).

I'm also a fan of Gustav Klimt. His paintings of Judith are amazing, but are nsfw.

I had to look it up Dante and Virgil by Bouguereau, I really like him I have it as a poster on my wall, he did so many nice paintings. It is a very nice story too, Dante's Inferno. The House That Jack Built is a great film, bit sick though.

That's cool, bet that looks great on your wall. I keep meaning to read Dante's Inferno, I wish I could read it in Italian maybe one day

I love Hieronymus Bosch (my profile banner) and Pieter Brueghel (my profile pic) because they're out there, batshit crazy with a boundless imagination, and I generally have a soft spot for symbolism and the fantasitical in art, which these two have in unlimited supply.

Also, I love Gustave Dores' illustrations of Paradise Lost, The Divine Comedy, Don Quixote etc.

@UseItOrLoseIt I can't get over how beautiful this art is! It's gorgeous in the details and creative expression, this is going to keep me captivated for days

The scenes in the first set of pictures remind me of Felix Colgraves animations on YouTube, both in the variety of elements and just general out-there craziness. Colgrave was probably very inspired by the works.

Bare in mind they were active in the 15th and 16th century. Stuck-out-of-time original. The fact that they managed to evade being burnt on a stake (particulary Bosch - Brueghel was way more tame) is nothing short of a miracle lol

Never heard of him. Gotta check him out. Personally, they remind me of Terry Gilliams' Monty Python animations. But this can probably be said for any surrealist art, since Bosch is considered to be the first one. Salvador Dali studied Bosch and was heavily influenced by his style and technique.
