Are you scared of what comes after death?

Just curious. Me personally, not so much scared of dying per se. Just terrified about what comes after. The fact we truly have no idea of what comes after terrifies me.
I'm an atheist, who is pretty firm in my belief. My personal belief is that, assuming death goes correctly without any severe damage to the brain, brainstem or the arteries, we will experience a last, extremely vivid dream, which for many will be either their idea of heaven or a past comforting memory. This is my speculation based off the fact that studies have shown spikes in the hippocampus and other areas of the brain responsible for dreaming combined with the many cases of resuscitation which causes the individual to see their own belief of afterlife.
That said, even I am not 100% dedicated to this idea, and the possibility of an afterlife in general terrifies me. I just want to return to the absent nothingness that was before I was born.
I've talked to a Muslim SaSu member who despite fully believing they are going to hell, they were adamant they couldn't continue in life. They simply wanted to move on, regardless of what awaited them.
Yes, I am fearful that my miserable existence will somehow continue after death and there will be no escape from it, I am fearful I will be confronted with my abusive father in death and I won't be able to get away from him. I am afraid of bring eternally stuck in a big black void of nothingness. I am afraid of coming back and having to do it all again or coming back in a 3rd world country starving of malnutrition. I have lots of fears but nothing is certain other than we must face it eventually and if I stay, a life of poverty and homelessness is a given, so the sooner the better.

Depends on if you believe that suffering is the truth of awareness/sentience or maybe that your souls identity regardless of species maintains your current suffering. Assuming reincarnation is correct in terms of both existence and rebirth of soul(since your energy will be recycled into the world regardless of what you try as per the law of conservation of energy) then it's possible you'd be happier or less aware in your rebirthed form. And if memories and identity were removed, would it even matter, because the person you are(meaning your experiences and genetic makeup) wouldn't exist.
What comes after death is in connection with suicide only relevant if you believe that your actions in this world have an effect of your existence in the next world. If you don“t believe something like that, you have to take it as it comes as you will die anyway.

<3. I hear and sympathize with you. If it helps it won't matter if it's nothingness, since you wouldn't have the ability to care. While possible it would the the equivalent of you being sentient in darkness, logically it would be more like how life was before you were born. Ultimately we don't know so it's possibly for all, but I think that the uncertainty is far more disconcerting than anything else.
FUCK YOU HEAVY ARE YOU OKAY U AINT RESPONDING TO MY DISC(NOT THAT YOU HAVE TO TAKE YOUR TIME IM GLAD TO KNOW UR STILL KICKIN EVEN IF U AINT WANT TO BE)
Don't really care, I've had enough of this life. Afterlife, reincarnation, non-existence?
Doesn't matter which so long as I am finally rid of the one I'm currently stuck in.

when you overthink death it can be fearful. however, death is simply non-existence. exactly as the time before your birth. you will not be able to comprehend it. there is no reason to fear it.
i am not a believer in god but no one can tell you with certainty that there is or isn't. follow what brings you a sense of peace.

As a promortalist, I can't help but think that death is a wonderfully good thing for everyone that is subject to it. I'm not at all afraid of what comes after death (nothingness).

No, I don't think there is anything outside of life. The reason why it scares us is because we don't know if it's truly the end but the thought of it being truly the end brings me peace. Can you imagine dying cuz you can't handle this world then being forced to live in an afterlife with the same kind of people? That sounds like a nightmare.
Am scared shitless man, I've got that awkward thing we're I don't want to live anymore yet the fact we don't know scares me I mean what if it's torture we can't say for certain that it isn't something like that

Yes, sure. What if the same s...t happens in afterlife if there is any... That is one of the reasons I had postponed in the past ctb. The hard nucleus of my thought though is that dying is a process that maybe lasts for the brain for centuries... Human time is brain made, for brain itself. Considering this the last 3 minutes until the cortex die, might feel centuries until the last brain cell dies. And during this we might be living through memories, that is the same s...t.
The most important thing is to get rid of the physical body, all my problems are because of it.
The rest doesn't interest me anymore.
Of course to feel again in something alive would be horrible, but I really hope that it will never happen again (I don't like the term "reincarnation" because it is too restrictive and too religious and I am totally for science only).
