I don't know…I mean, I think it's true than no matter how bad life is, it can always get worse, but seriously, how much worse can life get when both your parents and your children have rejected you, no one really (currently or at any point in the past) wants you, aside from friends who care about you, but who always have someone (kids/spouse/parents) who matter more than you do (not that I resent or begrudge that—those relationships always trump friends)?

I don't believe in an afterlife so I'm sure after I die all the 10,000 things I hate about life and this world won't exist anymore. No more chance of pain , nor aging , nor disease nor problems nor injustice etc

I don't know what to believe when it comes to an afterlife. Part of me wants there to be no after life because that means no uncertainty about my time after death. But that would make life really cruel and pointless. All the after life possibilities scare me. Hell is scary for obvious reasons, but haven sounds like torture if everything is already done. What would be the point. I guess it could be like minecraft creative mode, that could be fun. Reincarnation could be cool. I like the idea of getting a better life than this one a do over, but it could also be a worse life. You just don't know what will happen. Plus reincarnation sound like torture to, being stuck in a never ending cycle forever.

No. There is no proof afterlives exist.
how much worse can life get...
By getting in a car accident and paralyzed from the neck down with chronic pain. Which is infinitely more likely to happen than afterlives existing.

No clue on wether or not I believe in one, but sometimes I worry that things would just be even worse than they are here. Like, if I can barely tolerate shit now how am I gunna cope with a not so great eternity if that's the case aha.

There is no afterlife. Once your brain dies, you're gone forever.

Sam Harris:
"Now, we know this from 150 years of neurology where you damage areas of the brain and faculties are lost and they're clearly lost, it's not that everyone with brain damage has their soul perfectly intact and they just can't get the words out, everything about your mind can be damaged by damaging the brain. You can cease to recognize faces, you can cease to know the names of animals but still know the names of tools... the fragmentation in the way in which our mind is parcellated on that level of the brain is not at all intuitive and there's a lot known about it, and what we're being asked to consider is that you damage one part of the brain and something about the mind and subjectivity is lost, you damage another and yet more is lost, and yet if you damage the whole thing at death, we can rise off the brain with all our faculties intact, recognizing our dead grandma and speaking English."

Also, what is "you" & where is it stored? Are you the same "you" that you were as a baby & will you be the same "you" if you live to be 60/70/80? You won't because your "you" is stored in your brain & your brain is changing all the time. Which version of "you" will wake up in the afterlife after your dead brain has begun to rot & where will it come from?

There are some people who talk about finding peace in death--or anything really--but there is "nothing" (and the quotes are meant to make it clear that I am in no way attempting to reify "nothingness"). Even the suicidal doesn't get to have the satisfaction of being able to look back and realise that they have "crossed the threshold" as they intended. To look for something in nothing is a losing game. There are no resolutions to be found in death and that is the tragedy of life. Death isn't a state, rather there are only dead bodies and the living to mourn them.

The Greek philosopher, Epicurus described death quite beautifully: "And that of all the evils that gives us more horror, death is nothing to us, since we exist as ourselves, death is not, and when death exists, we are not. So death is neither the living nor the dead, since it has nothing to do with the former and the latter are not."

While this is not what I would call ideal, I cannot imagine how an afterlife could possibly exist. It is what it is, or rather, isn't.

Yes I am afraid of possible worse afterlife. Just like everything in the universe, all actions have consequences and I have made many mistakes and wronged people. Suicide is very likely a sin with consequences but I have hard time rationalising that it is absolutely damning for eternity for everyone who does it. I like to think that there are cases where suicide can be justified or at least pardoned especially when someone lose their minds momentarily while doing the act when they are faced with injustices and feel cornered. I think whatever we get in this life we may or may not deserve it because of arbitrary nature of this reality while on the other hand, whatever we get in the after life we definitely deserve it because it will be a consequence of our chosen actions and their corresponding intentions behind them

A lot of people always talk about afterlife from the perspective of the individual separate ego of the body mind. For example 'Where will I go?' 'What will I experience?'. This completely overlooks the fact that everything about you as an individual is based here in the (possibly illusory) physical world. Once your body dies, everything that defines you as a separate individual, distinct from the rest of the universe, your ego stuff, will disappear.

So logically it's no longer an individual experience. More of a rejoining with infinite consciousness, or God's infinite mind, if you will.

My belief is along these lines of Advaita Vedanta. There is no separate self, but there is the illusion of separation created in the brain. When the brain dies, the illusion shatters and our consciousness rejoins the infinite like a drop of water rejoining the ocean. It goes from limited to limitless and the limit was only ever a temporary illusion.

But to each their own.

NO, I am NOT afraid of a afterlife at all. I am of the ultra firm belief that this is one stop of many. Now so call it Heaven or similar term, one can call the next life whatever one wants, BUT there is another experience waiting everyone. I have never understood the fact how this is one and done, really?? Look at it this way, if all being was from the big bang to now as far as 24 hours on a clock, humans would be on it for the last few seconds, so we are not even out of the "nest" yet, so how do we know that there is no other experiences waiting? Now people will say, "hey that also can mean that there is no other experiences waiting as far as we are still young in nature yet. Well that is a point of view, I guess, BUT,BUT I always like the bright side of things, positive in nature and not all gloom and doom, so that is 1 reason that there is another experience waiting, call it a afterlife if one chooses to. Very much so, this is my problem...
Those who say it impossible there is an evil God are either thinking very limited or are blind believers not wanting to risk even saying God's made bad decisions.
I really hope there's no evil running things. But the way life's been I don't see how such a rubbish concept as 'love' exists.

Its seems its all corruption, injustice, cruelty and Sadism.

I believe all hatred in the world comes down to falling victim to the prior evils. Yet they get no mention, hate gets all the blame, at least hate is pure, hate is fair, it doesn't discriminate in and of itself.
Everyone twists and turns all the ideas around it making it seem like the cause not a symptom.

Yes. Pretty much every religion says suicide is a sin, one of the worst ones at that. Same religions that state being gay is a sin too. Personally, I've accepted the possibility of hell if it means heaven is populated by homophobes.

I do not believe in any afterlife. If a hell exists, it is this life. I believe there is nothing after death, once we lose consciousness, that is it for us, we are gone. I believe it is just like before we were born, how time passed and we were not aware of anything. Death brings me a lot of comfort.

What type of afterlife do you believe in? Asking because if you believe in something like hell where you burn for all eternity, wouldn't you rather just life and suffer than die and suffer even more?

Even if the after life is worse than this one I would imagine that this would actually just further devalue life. Like, we are all aware we will die someday right? We can't stave off the inevitable. There would be absolutely no point in resisting. In-fact the only thing that would do is make it immoral for people to reproduce to doom future generations.

I believe in Heaven but not in a hell. So I'm not worried. Worst case scenario, I get reincarnated into an even shittier life, but in that case I would forget about all of this anyways so there would be no means for comparison.

Honestly, the best psychiatrist I ever saw asked me the question, "how do you know it will be better when you die?"
I believe that's an excellent question. We don't know. We just don't.

No but I do sometimes have a darkly amusing thought that the reason why babies scream at birth is because there's a brief period in which they're aware that their lives are just on repeat and they're about to have to do it all over again.

It depends. Sometimes I'll overthink about it and be scared that what people say is true and that horrible places after death do exist, but I've thought about it and I feel that I believe if there is an afterlife it will be peaceful. I just know this is better for me, no more suffering and pain. Finally happiness.
