when i think i'm putting on a big smile, i look in the mirror, and it's actually just a tiny smile.
it's weird.

like sometimes if i'm doing dishes or whatever and i'm thinking of something funny and i laugh relatively much,
then i look in the mirror (which is in my kitchen) and i will notice that in my face, the smile is barely there.
but i felt like i did a big laugh or smile.

i guess it's bc i'm so fundamentally depressed since i was 12 that even when i feel joy... it's like... idk... it just doesn't really show in my face.

so now imagine what i look like on bad days, out in public.
people laugh at me all the time bc i look miserable.
they like taking joy in others pain

Awwww.

Have you ever heard the technique of smiling to try to get your face to signal to your brain that you are happy? (Okay, maybe less depressed). Does it work if you try it?

It's around people idk know much and friends. I unmask around family and very close friends I guess! I feel like if I don't do it, they'll leave me so I just do lol.

Idk how I do it though, it's like my brain turns off and I go on autopilot and I'm barely there anymore, but I act manic. I'm very tired after. I've done that too much at one point , and people started noticing I wasn't there and was very distracted so I had to tone it down lmao. But yeah haha

My dark opinion....we were wired that way by evolution, it wants us to pay attention to the scary bad things so we don't die. Evolution doesn't really care about happiness.

Yes, I've always been good at hiding my feelings. Sometimes they leak out a little, but not nearly to the point that most people can tell something is off, and even those that can do not grasp the severity of it.

I'm not really sure that this is a good thing though.

Teachers used to tell me life must be all red and roses in my eyes and a close friend said I never seems to be sad.

Right...

Kind of the same thing here. I have the added feature of being old, so the sadness is carved into my face. I look terrible. As long as I don't walk past a mirror, I think I'm doing a good job of faking it. I do tend to make a few too many jokes and references to suicide though, which some people take as a red flag.
