  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

A few days ago this question has worried me a little

The information on CTB methods or the farewells that are made in this forum, makes me think about the question in the title of this thread. There is a thin line between giving information and encouraging CTB

Maybe I shouldn't keep thinking about this so I don't feel guilty.

Seems like we're just people giving each other some warmth and support… I haven't really seen anybody steering anybody towards a decision they didn't want to make themselves…

it is emprically proven that if people have access to methods like SN, their suicide rate is increased. That is the reason why I don't give out information about my SN sources. Still your not the person who did all the wrong doing to a human being contemplating suicide. Also I think it should be the governments responsibility to help people with their problems... and if their not solvable... then give out a peaceful way of exiting this world.

I never encourage or promote suicide. It is up to an individual or not whether they should ctb or not. This site does provide method knowledge and comfort. People have to take personal responsibility for their own actions. It's not up to me or anybody else on the site to moderate the rights for people to choose to live or die. So if you are here, there are good reasons why you are here. That's my take on it anyway.

No, the people who came on this forum chose to die and that was their decision. Nobody was told that they must die. If someone is desperate to leave this world they will find a way no matter what and if there are no suicide method information on the internet then people will likely fail and end up with damage. Respecting someones choice to die does not mean 'encouraging', saying a farewell is respectful, if someone got legal assisted suicide then they would be able to say goodbye to those around them and nobody would see anything wrong with that. Saying goodbye to someone about to ctb on the internet is the same thing.

If someone wants to exit at a time of their own choosing then there is nothing wrong with that. Suicide is a human right and we will all die eventually someday, so we deserve to have the right to exit and nobody else should be allowed to interfere.
I think that pro lifers label things as 'encouragement' as they won't try to understand, they are delusional and refuse to accept that non existence can be a more preferable option for people. Nobody on here should read pro life nonsense in the media, suicide really shouldn't be so stigmatised and I don't think that threads like this help anything as it almost feeds the pro lifers delusions about suicidal people.

I agree with the answers written here. I don't believe we are responsible or necessarily witnesses to the death of people on this forum as we don't coerce or otherwise pressure anyone into death or their decision. Instead, this site serves as an outlet to discuss about suicide and other similar topics that doesn't exist on other platforms (at least not to the extent this forum allows). Additionally, it provides information on methods and with this information, it is up to the person to decide how to proceed with it; if the person wishes to CTB his/her decision is respected and is able to make an informed decision on the method of his/her choice. On the other hand, with a recovery subforum, should the person change his/her mind and wishes to get better, he/she can utilize that forum or even leave the forum altogether.

I didn't either give because I learnt it and I don't think anyone is really giving any options or methods and noone ever made someone make a decision as far as I have seen the forums I have checked I am not claiming but it is visible everything is transparent here as far I know I am also a new member and I think I have been accepted here and respect this.

No, I feel this site gives comfort and a sense of understanding to those suffering. To leave a last word of compassion to those who ctb is more than you would find out in this cruel world. No one is forced to die, but rather gain valuable information to make informed decisions by themselves over their own lives.
