Short story: I've been diagnosed with autism recently. Before I was labeled with BPD and other things and got treatment for this.
I have been treated for many things (depression, anxiety, panic).
I have exhausted most of the treatment options, which is the main reason I want to ctb. I can't do this much longer.

My psych keeps saying I haven't exhausted the treatment options yet, becasue I haven't been treated for autism and learning how to deal with it. She thinks this might be the "solution". I'm very sceptic, because autism is a chronic illness which can't be cured. You can only manage it. For now, I agreed to go to a center (not clinical) specialized
in autism and give it a try. Don't know what kind of treatment yet.

I was wondering if you guys have experience with an autism focused treatment? Is it really useful?

i don't have any experience myself so this is just based on what I've heard from other autistic people who've tried it.

it depends on the treatment and therapist.

imo the problem with some of those treatments is that they focus on making you act as neurotypical as possible without taking your unique feelings&needs into account. it just pisses me off because who says we're the ones who need to change and suffer so we can fit in? it's deffo good to develop some social skills but having to constantly mask your true personality is extremely exhausting to many autistic people and yet NTs continue to push that shit constantly.

a better treatment focuses on navigating life in a neurotypical society, dealing with situations that are overwhelming to you in a healthy way, understanding NTs while still accepting that autism isn't something that can be cured.

if you feel like you've exhausted all other treatment options, it's worth it to try. there will never be a "solution" to your issues, there are just tools that can help make things easier. maybe try to find information on what kind of treatment they do.

This is my frustration as well. I feel like I don't fit into in this society, it's too overwhelming. Although I'm pretty social, because I'm some sort of expert at masking and acting. This leads to overstimulation, depressioen etc.
I want to learn to respect my boundaries and accept my autism. But it's hard because I feel like a failure/weirdo all the time.

Thanks for your reply. I hope it will work

Aspergers was lumped in with Autism a few years ago which made things even more confusing. Classical autism was usually observed in children with severe brain damage. These children did not often live to adulthood.

Aspergers is a neurological variant such that neurology is faster, more sensitive, or complex such that a person can have to do much more sensory and cognitive processing. This can produce anxieties and an intensity of focus that often tunes out peripheral attention such that others see a lack of social interaction.

If this is what you are dealing with (there is often a lack of certainty with most of these kind of diagnoses), then it is not something that can be treated, but rather management skills can be developed to help improve coping. One resource to consider is a forum where people exchange information about these skills and problems.

Having been through similar my observation is the medical profession are too willing to place labels on people without helping people achieve a good outcome

What kind of treatment are you going to get specifically? I was diagnosed with Assburgers so I'm naturally interested.

I'm curious as to what the treatment would be too. If its something like what I quoted here then no thank you.

hey guys sorry for coming back to this old post but I've done some research and I am certain there will be an actual "cure" for autism in the future.

There are drugs / treatments currently in clinical trial that are looking to help with the actual problems that people with autism suffer from - problems reading social cues, inability to deal with loud sounds / lights, arm flapping etc. Look into transcranial magnetic stimulation, Balovaptan and Cariprazine. These are all things being currently researched that show a LOT of promise.

I'm also diagnosed with assburgers which is pretty crippling. One of the only things keeping me going is the hope that one of these things may come out one day that will completely "treat" my autism. Maybe in the future it'll be as easy to treat autism with a pill as it is to treat ADHD right now.

It depends on what issues you're having. ASD is not a condition that you can take tablets for and make it go away - it's part of your personality.
That being said, meds can help with anxiety and apparently you can have social skills training.
For some people, myself included, symptoms faded with age.
