Derek Humphry and Philip Nitschke say that the exit bags are a reliable, easy to setup, peaceful method.

That's what I am going for when my time comes. Getting a gas tank is easier to get than SN / drugs, in my opinion...

There are some ambiguities involved with the exit bag that can cause failure.

I will use an EEBD hood myself for this reason, but if the instructions for assembling an exit bag are followed correctly, risk of failure should be reduced substantially.

I have tried and failed an exit bag method, but not due to faulty execution. Just that SI got in the way, and I turned my phone back on without thinking. The various pieces of the puzzle were easy to obtain and set up however, I can attest to that.

I just bought one actually after reading more about it. Not coming through for 11 more days though :(

SI, man. It always seems easier until you have to face it. But thank you!

I have tried and failed. The most probable reason in my opinion was that the gas was impure.I didn't even pass out.

Was this with helium? I've heard that they often have oxygen in now to prevent harm to kids inhaling it to get funny voices. Nitrogen seems to be a better option.

I've got some helium tanks that are apparently 98% pure that should be enough but you never know what it's mixed with, 98% should be enough right? even if was 95% think would be ok - they don't mix it with pure oxygen they use air, which itself only has just over 20% oxygen in it, so even with 5 % air there would be only 1% oxygen.

I should have opted for nitrogen tbh with more research but helium was easier t acquire, it make more sense too as the air is 78% nitrogen so we are all breathing it right now.

If you didn't pass out it means there still was oxygen. If there still was oxygen and you didn't have any hypercapnic response it means that the oxygen available in the bag wasn't oxygen that wasn't flushed, it was oxygen that was renewed.
My guess is your gas wasn't pure enough. Did you check the purity beforehand? It has to be 3.0 minimum.

The first digit of the grade classification indicates the 'number of nines' purity, e.g. 3.0 = 99.9% purity.

The second digit is the number following the last nine, e.g. 4.6 helium has a guaranteed minimum purity level of 99.996%.

I tried it once but I would have needed something to sedate me first. The panic of not being able to breathe hit fast. I feel like the risk of passing out and your body starting to shake as u are dying might dislodge the tube from the bag or u might rip off the bag unconciously. Too much room for failure unless u got a really secure mask like a scuba mask with a tube attached very securely. U might also need to tape your hands together so u can't undo it as u panic. 😂 I'm sorry I know sounds kinda funny but u would have to ensure u cannot stop the process or the survival instinct might stop u.

Your reasoning is sound. It should be enough.

To be honest, i think the exit bag method, coupled with the use of an inert gas, is just a very good way to achieve unconsciousness quickly and irreversible, peaceful, death in just 5 min.

The inert gas is just a way to displace oxygen and lose consciousness quickly. It will rapidly induce hypoxia, but the bag by itself would still have killed you after 1h, with no inert gas flow.

In his Final Exit DVD, Derek Humphry explains the "Easy Helium Exit Bag" just after explaining the "Hardcore CO2 Exit Bag", where you "only" use an Exit bag to achieve hypoxia through naturally breathing out CO2. But you need drugs (metos, benzos alcohol) to achieve unconsciousness, numb and prevent the so called hipercarnip response...and the death takes a lot more time to take place, 30-45 min.

My wife recently did it the 'hardcore way', but it looks like she died pretty quickly from her Fitbit data in around 10-15mins, I can see her breathing and heart rate which is pretty hard to see the moment she died. I am still awaiting to tox report for evidence of drugs but I know she had been drinking that day from an order she made for a 350ml bottle of vodka.

Pains me to think of her dying that way alone as sounds horrible and breaks my heart.

I would have gone together with the gas method holding her hand but we will both die alone

I am so sorry for your loss. I wish i could say something to confort you, but there is nothing i could say that would be conforting enough... It's just devastating — to everyone — that our lives have come to this point where we can't even tolerate being alive anymore.

We were all brought to this life without our consent... Just because two people made that decision for us, thinking it would be a nice, agreeable "ride".

They ignored that the day we would be born wasn't going to be a pure, joyful, day, but It would also be the day that brought us a death sentence, waiting to be executed. Life is a bit like a "death row".

Maybe if we were a more honest society, we wouldn't ignore death as much as we do... and we would treat it with the dignity it deserves.
