I watched the Smile movies (1 and 2) last week and was watching some YouTube videos that analyzed them. From what I could gather, the film actually isn't about suicide itself or its effect (according to the producer) but simply a demonic entity that passes on to people through a traumatic death (i.e witnessing anyone possessed by it murder someone or kill themselves). People with any previous trauma in their life are more likely to get possessed.

Smile (Movie Analysis)

The video below however triggered me because the most upvoted comment got the whole theme of the movie wrong and just wrote stigmatizing things about suicide but that's to be expected of YouTube.

Is it the "transferring pain to your loved ones" comment? I don't necessarily think they're wrong, but I don't think they're 100% right, either.

Something like CTB most definitely causes a ripple effect in one's community, no matter how small it may seem. In many cases, people will grieve the absence of the deceased-- I'm not trying to sound guilt-trippy, either (I firmly believe that everyone should be given a choice regarding whether they want to stay alive or not)-- but a lot of the time someone will miss you. And in the case of suicide, it may be even more traumatic than if the deceased's family/friends/etc. had to deal with the aftermath of a more "normal"(?) death. It's a bit of a double-edged sword, I suppose.
