Hi all was just wondering what other people's experience is of Lorazopam. I've been prescribed it for short term for the first time and at the moment it feels like the anxiety is extremely diminished. Sadly I know it's chemically induced but it's helping me to function a bit better right now. Sucks that it's not a permanent med :-/

I take it along lithium, depakote, olanzapine and escitalopram.

Do you find it helps? I'm taking right now with quetiapine sertraline procyclodine and promethazine. I think that my normal meds on their own haven't help hugely for a few years now and it feels like to some degree I'm having fairly rapid mood cycles like 3 months anxiety and depression then maybe 1-2 months of reasonably ok to slightly on the excitable irritable side again :-/ and it just repeats like that. :-0

Lorazepam is ok, is one of the ones I like. The other ones I hate.

I've been prescribed diazepam before and the seemed to help but I would still be quite tweaked on it like I was still anxious but less aware of it. Lorazepam seems to be much more calming right now, almost feel normal again. Sad that it's not permanent :-/ ah well...

I've been prescribed Lorazepam for a while now, but my doctor only gives me a little at a time. She's concerned about me becoming dependent on it and whatnot. It does seem to help a lot though. I just wish it didn't take as long to kick in and it sort of puts me to sleep, which can be a problem at times.

It's my preferred anxiety med, but unfortunately they really don't like to prescribe it. A lot of people are easily addicted to it.

When I had cancer, they gave it out like candy, but after they made me go off it as soon as they could. For a few years I was on Klonopin, but now all they'll give me is propranolol and gabapentin.

I kinda think they should put lorazepam in the drinking water, like they do with fluoride for teeth. I mean I think that addiction is a matter of degrees and if everyone was taking it it would be hard to call it addiction. Of course I'm joking but imagine how wonderful the world would be tomorrow morning after everyone had had their daily dose of vitamin L. :-)

around 6 months ago i was prescribed lorazepam, not as strong as alprazolam and the half life is short compared to other benzodiazepines so it gave me a lot of anxiety in the morning since my metabolism is quite fast.

i switched to clonazepam because of the morning anxiety, i like this one better because it lasts longer in my body, but i know that some people prefer lorazepam for similar reasons.

Yes, short term for situational anxiety.
It didn't do much to handle my panic. One temp, small trial rx was all I went through.

I have low dose clonazapam for panic episodes. It works, if by works means I feel calmer within about twenty minutes then lights out within twenty minutes after that. I was panicky bad last night and a vicious headache so took one at 10 ish. Slept til 5 am.

I was prescribed Lorazepam as a prn in the past and would take it when I was feeling especially anxious. It did help somewhat - in the sense that my anxiety would be blunted just enough for me to do what I needed - and it didn't leave me feeling faint like atypical antipsychotics...but there was one unfortunate side effect.

Benzodiazepines can inhibit the formation of memories, and I remember incidents where I was left with these gaps in my memory after taking a dose. I once took a dose before go to school for a lecture and then the next thing I remember was waking up the next morning. The only evidence I had that I even went to my class were the notes I took with a stupid doodle of beetles having an all out knife fight in the margins. It was then that I understood how people who were blackout drunk felt like...sans hangover.

I promise that my notes were still good;;; I try to be a good student.

I am described this for use 'when needed' as an emergency medication for acute bouts of anxiety. In the UK it is very difficult to have this drug prescribed as a regular and sustained medication. It started where I would only be able to get 8 x 1mg at a time, then went to 12 x 1mg per month and I am now going to the GP tomorrow to see if they will sign off my psychiatrists recommendation that I be put up to 28 x 1mg per month for 2-3 months while my new antidepressant has a chance to take effect. I'm taking 20mg of Escitalopram daily which isn't doing anything yet.

I find Lorazapam one of the fastest working benzos, although I need to take 2mg for it to have any effect. 1mg doesn't seem to do anything. They are a short term solution to a long term problem that will need something other than a benzo to fix. Have you been prescribed anything else alongside it?

oh and i should add, this was by much the hardest to detox from, i've had withdrawals from many benzodiazepines like xanax and gaba substances, and for some reason this one took me the longest to stop feeling withdrawals.

but every body is different so my experience is just one of millions, you may find it easy to get off from and be clean of it in mere days.

I have been on Quetiapine for over a decade and more recently sertraline and also promethazine and procycladine. I'm considering changing my first name to Pharmacy! Don't think the quetiapine is working anymore, it was wonderful for 4 years when they fine tuned the dose then slowly but surely I went back to being a total disaster! Shame as I quite liked "successful me" :-/ ah well :-)
