I live in Ireland and although our healthcare system is equally as shitty (probably shittier), one thing I like is that once you are 18, the Gardai don't give a shit about you killing yourself. Since it isn't a crime and since families can rarely bring lawsuits, their isn't as much concern if you report someone who is suicidal.

The police even hinted that if I wanted to kill myself, "that was my problem" but that I leave my parents alone. I see here of an unfortunate guy who was sectioned after his mother called the police.

Does anyone here live in a country where the police don't care and/or your family doesn't care if you kill yourself?

I don't know how about UK, but I wouldn't risk exposing my scarred parts and wounds to police officer getting suspicious. Damn, I've heard they could forcefully lock one in psych ward. Risky as hell...

In my country, the police really give a shit! Never thought it would be that way in Ireland considering it is a religious and conservative country (abortion is considered murder)

I think it has to do with lawsuits as I said in this post. It's harder to sue here in Ireland and thus for, the police don't really have a need to prevent a suicide. It's just dismissed as a tragic mistake.

Also suicide was illegal in Ireland until 1993 when it was decriminalised.

I have told many people (nurses and doctors) about my suicidal intentions (except my parents), they listened and that was it, so I guess it's the same thing here (Spain). Funny because they are giving me the meds I need to kill myself and they don't even notice it.

I never told them "I am about to kill myself" but I doubt they would actually do anything (the nurse who gave me injections didn't seem to give a shit). Maybe if you look dangerous or something like that.

The last thing any serious self-motivated person is going to be scared of, is the police/any other human. The last thing on my mind when going through the unpleasant process of obtaining substances/equipment was any sort of societal construct getting in my way. But I will say the lack of compassion and reason in society is indeed immense.

In the US I don't think they give af once you reach 18 or 20. But they have to pretend to by law.
